Default GSR Build...Any suggestions??

I am going to be building a GSR swap. This is going to be my first engine build so any suggestions are great. What do you guys think.

GSR Head
Blox Intake Manifold
ARP Head Studs
Supertech Springs and Retainers
Skunk2 Pro1/Pro2 cams (not really sure what cams to use????)
STR Cam Gears
Hytech Rep Header

GSR Block
81.5 P30 pistons 11.59:1 (maybe a little higher now from block/head resurface)
Stock Rods-ARP Bolts

Fujitsubo Exhaust 60mm

Transmission
Exedy Stage 1 Clutch
B16 Trans (LSD eventually)

Resurfaced block/head deck

Why tuner2. I thought they were more for turbo?

pro 1s are actually one of the nastier NA and turbo cams. a lot of guys have made crazy numbers with pro 1s and boost.

one thing to keep in mind with pro 1s is you MUST have them tuned

that means $150 for a chipped obd1 ecu

$90 for a conversion harness

$350 for the tune

you also have a shortened VT life due to how aggressive they are. this isn't a cam you expect 100k out of. the guides and seats get hit hard

Aftermarket Rods, might as well do it right the first time.
Not a big fan of STR.

Why aftermarket rods. Aren't the stock rods good to 350+ HP?
And I paid $20 brand new for the STR's from my brother. Are they known for slipping?

Personally I'd go with Skunk2 70mm throttle body and Skunk2 manifold. Don't forget that on changing the stock GSR manifold to an aftermarket one, you have to change the throttle body cable setup to Type r style.

Also, are you planning on boosting your engine or spraying? I’m mentioning in-case you are, to make sure you build your engine toward that now, rather than later.

Good luck!

I think i'm just going to keep it NA. I'm looking for a decent, yet reliable setup. Nothing to crazy.

what kind of whp do you want to make and does it have to pass emissions?

if it does the cheap route is just selling your engine and buying a jdm itr for $2500 complete

if it doesn't you can get more creative but the worst part about NA builds is

1. the high rpms
2. the big cams

both reduce engine life

MAYBE 190+ if possible. Doesn't have to pass emissions. I already have the GSR complete swap-trans-P72 ecu, and the STR's. Im looking for somewhere in the middle with engine life. Don't really have a mileage.

honda itr cams can make 190whp without much trouble provided you have at least 11:1 compression, a mildly ported head and nice header. they also live forever, you don't have to worry about them killing the VT or breaking and they are extremely easy to tune. you just modify a p73 map adding a bit of timing to the midrange

have combustion contraptions or another solid head builder work your head for you, get the itr cams and aim for about 11:5-1 compression, a jdm itr piston or a knock off of one and a p72 head should be about there. oem valves also would be preferable

you can save money on the VT too since the honda ITR VT is cheap

a good bowl blend will pick up quite a few cfm in the head and put you right on track for your goal.

this just saved you about $1000 over pro 1s, the matching vt and required work to make them run right

you gave up about 15hp-ish but gained a lower redline and longer engine life

BUT you now have an engine that could pass emission should you choose to make it do so

That sounds easy enough. What do you think about sticking with p30 pistons? Is hytech Rep good enough?
