B16b swap in ek coupe help
Whats up honda peeps... So here's the deal i got an ek coupe 96 and im swapping a b16b ctr complete in there... I got innovated mounts but what else do i need to finish this build, other than the b series axels and t bar for the rear mount... And is this the right choice of motor since im a type r fan but cant afford the b18 one...
if it a coupe its a ej not ek... lol is it a ex or dx? a wiring harness from 96-98 ex will bolt right up to the motor perfect.. i assume the b16b u have is from a similar year ctr.?
is the harness it is coming from another 96-98 civic or is it the JDm harness? im not 100% sure cause its been a while but i think the JDM rhd harness is alittle diff and you should use your ex harness..
You will need the drivers side engine post mount for any b series swap into that car.
Since you asked about engine choice, i will give my opinion......
I would not at all waste your time money with the B16B. It is still a 1.6L with no torque what so ever, and has only high end zip.
For the money, you could source a B20Z. It is under rated in power. Real world power is about 160hp and 146 ft lbs tq. It's power band comes right off of idle all th way to redline and would be much more enjoyable to drive.
Yes, i have owned both engines, so this is not a bias opinion

^^won't the motor already come with the post mount? since its out of an EK chassis already? i would assume so.
Also, you will need use your STOCK EX harness for the swap. The JDM harness won't work (because it is made for right-hand drive vehicles)
good luck with your swap!

yeah thats what they told me is rhd hardness i guess what i can do is order the motor with ex hardness or an si hardness ek obviesly... About the engine choice remember the b16b comes with 185 couple of mods here and there baller mods obviesly lol could get u to 220 to 240 kind of quick...
Again, it doesn't work like that, unless you want to throw serious cash at it or turbo it (B16Bs are not exactly well designed for boost either) If you just want it because it's a type R, by all means go ahead, but in real world daily driving a GS-R will have a lot more usable power. CTR swaps are highly overrated IMO.
Exactly...great engine, but it isn't "that" great, more bragging rights than anything
you said u have a ex, just your the stock wiring harness for you single cam motor.. it will work just fine.. you'll have to extend the wires on a o2 sensor..
*harness lol. and uhh you COULD use an Si harness but u will need to use an OBD2-B ECU because the Si harness is OBD2-B. UNLESS of course you use a jumper harness. i assume you will be using the CTR ECU?
side-comment: the B16B is my dream engine lol. just cuz it is a CTR motor

Doesn't work like that, you can use an Si harness, but you need also swap the cabin harness for a '99 - '00 harness (except HX) this require removing the dash and just about everything under it including the pedals and heatercore. Jumper harness wont help in this situation. CTR ECUs are one of the very few JDM ECUs that came in an OBD2B variety, so depending on the year of the swap it may be OBD2A or OBD2B.

Which would have been OBD2A.
A 96-98 harness will work, but a EX would be the easiest to use.
Not to be rude but you need to search. This information has been covered A LOT.
yeah but is my first swap u know... i work in a shop and i been in this game for a while but i never got into covering the subject of obd2a or obd2b or which harness to use u know... Thanks for the info guys... Which website or shop would u guys recomend to get the motor in, i have a place but i could use some suggesions..
