Default 1989 Honda Civic Dx

I bought a 89 Honda civic dx sedan yesterday and the speedometer isn't working? What could be affecting it from working?

Check the speedo cable at both ends to make sure it is inserted properly into the transmission and the gauge cluster. Also check to make sure the speedo cable isn't broken. If the cable is working okay while the car is in motion, the speedometer head itself is probably bad.

Like Targa Said check your speedo cable and if that seems all good, than change your cluster that might be be the problem or clean out the cable cause all the corrosion

On your tranny there is a cable that runs from there to your firewall, it should be in the back if you can see your axle from the top you should be able to see your speedo its right next to it

i jsut replaced mine.
one end plugs into ur gauge cluster, if u can figure out how to get to it, good if not. heres how.
you first must removed the top cover. 5 clips and 2 screws.
than take off the front bezel above teh steering wheel.
i believe its 4 screws.
than pull that forward and unpulg the 3-5 combination buttons.
now you will see the cluster sitting all naked.
its held in by 4 screws.
once those are out. u can pull it towards you. and unplug the connectors 1 by 1.
they are color coded and not easy to mess up so dont worry about putting them back its easy.
the speed sensor is connect on the furthest right of the cluster. its the only black looking cable.

Will it still be in the same area?

the gauges is the cluster.
its the same thing. words are just interchangeable.
and there is no just thing as a D16B2.
but eitherway. a d16 and a d15 still have teh same speedometer cable setup.
so itll be in the same spot eitherway.
ill post a How to for you with pictures tomorrow wehn i get up. this removal seriously takes about a min and 24 secs.
