Default D16Y7 Rebuild Question

Hey, i am rebuilding an xtra engine for my 98 LX. The engine in my civic now is worn out and at one time we used a re-ring kit on it that had "Nippon NPR" rings and ACL bearings. These parts worked fine, i bought them on ebay, but i cant find them anymore the company i bought my kit from has replaced the ACL with King bearings, and they said they dont know when or if they will be getting the ACL's back.
I trusted the ACL's and dont know anything about the King's, Can anyone tell me a good bearing for the money? SOmething i can trust in my daily driver. This ring and bearing kit i used in my civic was under $100!, and has 53000 on it and is good to go, but my engine block was worn severly and had piston slap. This is why i am replacing. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Why don't you just find someone ELSE that sells the ACL bearings?

I'm sure other people sell them besides what's on Ebay.

Don't limit your self to ebay, call around and talk to some shops. They can get good deals also.

53k and your building a new one makes me uneasy about the parts you used.

Well my engine was build in the car, and was actually worn out, it had excessive cylinder wear, ie piston slap. But it was and is my daily driver and i didnt have a choice but to run it like that, and i still drive it daily, so its 53000++. It is just getting pretty weak. I bought a good low mileage builder, with tight parts. I just need a good, affordable re-ring kit.

I called the dealer the other day, and they said there wasnt a specific "stock" bearing and i had to get the color or number from each bearing and give that to them, basically each journal had a different bearing size. I found this on google and its the jist of what she said.

When i rebuilt mine 53000+ miles ago i used one specific bearing, not individual bearings with different sizes.
Of course it sounds rather noisy starting it on cold mornings, could be why.

Ive been hearing from many people that ACL went out of business or something and people have been using King bearings a lot now.

We did an engine rebuild on a B20 last August and they gave us King. My friend rebuilt his Z6, he wanted ACL but they gave him King. The local shop told me he cant get ACL and he doesnt know till when.

Thats the same story i got. I bought my last re-ring set from a vender on ebay, and now, needing another set i went back to them, they had the kit but with king bearings. I emailed them and they basically told me they had them back ordered and didnt know if/when they would be getting anymore. I searched ebay for someone else who might have some and all the regular bearings are gone, there are a handfull of people selling "racing" ACL bearings, and alot higher price.
