Default Is it stupid to buy a Viper alarm+remote start, and not use remote start?

This sound like a weird question, but is it stupid to buy the Viper 5901 (alarm + remote start) and just use if for the alarm, instead of just buying a basic Viper alarm with no remote start? To me it seems like the alarm + remote start systems have a FAR better overall alarm system than those that are just an alarm.

I drive a 96 Prelude with a manual transmission and have been doing some research on what alarm to get. I have decided I wanna go with a Viper alarm (or any DEI alarm system). My car is a manual, so for obvious safety reasons, I would not want to install a remote start. But I was looking at the specifications of the alarms, and it seems to me that the basic alarms suck compared to the alarm + remote start systems, especially in their range.

The best of the Viper alarm systems only reach up to 1500 feet, whereas the alarm + remote start systems reach up to a mile. I would really like the 5901, but would it be stupid or a waste of money to buy it if I am not even going to install the alarm?

Doesn't seem stupid. Like you said yourself, the remote start models give better range. They are also set up to allow you to SAFELY operate remote start on a manual as well, if you so desire.

The 5901 remote start is designed to work safely with manual transmissions.

Any 2way alarm will have the range you are looking for, that will be the biggest diff., 1way or 2way, I think their SST line has the longest range.

Compustar has alarms only with 1 mile range... http://www.compustar.com/ 94

Doesn't sound stupid at all to me. Like everyone else said, it just so happens that the higher quality alarm systems usually have remote start standard.

Yeah I think I'm gonna buy the 5901 then. Having a good range is one of the things I really want for an alarm, and I think I'll be happy with the 5901 even if I don't use the remote start.

Alot of my customers purchases the 5901 and do not even want the remote start. Auto and manual cars. Its a great alarm and you will be happy with it. Also you can program the 5902 remote to it too later as a upgrade.

Yeah. Well now I can't decide if I want the 5901 or the 5902 haha. I was thinking on just getting the 5901 and saving a little money, but I know I'll regret not going with the 5902 if I do that. I just gotta decide now if I think its worth the extra $100 for the nice OLED screen haha
