Default Remote Start Alarm without installing remote start

Can this be done? I would like to install the Viper 5301C on my '00 Civic SI. But due to the first phase of my security sysem I can't remote start my car. I chose this alarm because I would like a 2-way paging alarm with a lcd screen. Only remote start alarm have this. So is it possible?

Yes. You'll still need to connect the ignition input wire so the alarm will know when the key is turned on/off so it can reset after being triggered.

Ditto the above.^^^

However remote start/alarm combo units are not the only way to get an alarm with 2way remotes. 94

This question is answered in detail every other week if you do a search.

Why isn't the 5301C on Viper's website? I googled it and it just looks like a 791XV.

Yea, I don't recognize the model number either and I can find no Viper 5301C or any DEI alarm with 5301C as it's model number, there is a Viper 5701.

"it just looks like a 791XV"
They are DEI, the same "box" different label. 94

I know. But my concern is the lcd screen with the picture of the car on it. I've only found remote start alarms with that.

I did search. I guess I could have added more hours of effort to the hours I had already put in.

I don't know why it's not on the Viper site, I was looking for it too.

OIC, a made for dealer system... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...etail so you can not shop and compare pricing
As mentioned probably just a Viper 791XV... http://www.directeddealers.com...5.pdf

The Viper 5002 would be the alarm only version... http://www.viper.com/Products/...D=107

Or the Python 902... http://www.pythoncarsecurity.c...D=606

Also available from Clifford, Avital and other DEI systems.

2way alarms are also available from Compustar... http://www.compustar.com/main.htm and most other alarm manufacturers. 94

You don't need remote start to get the LCD screen. You can get the Viper 5000 (replaced by the 5002), or the Python or Clifford equivalent. This info is in the "which alarm should I buy" sticky.

Oh okay that's cool. But I'm going with the Viper 5301C cause I can get it for $170. Now if there is an alarm out there with an lcd and similar for less, please let me know cause I have been looking. Trying to get one with sst technology too. Also suspended, I would like to share with you what I am trying to do with my alarm system. I have also posted in the fourm where you guys offer installation. But I want to learn, not just pay.

Once again THANKS! I needed to know that cause I already have this installed on my car:http://www.nohotwire.com/

It took care of the starter and ignition. (The reason why I can't get remote start )

Geezzz another Ravelco install.
Having one of those POS is no reason not to install the remote start, it is nothing a few relays can't easy bypass. 94

Yes, the Ravelco is nothing more then multi pole kill switch, like kill switches it opens a circuit, in this case a number of circuits.
Installing a relay, [controlled by the systems "status" output lead] to close the open circuits when starting the car remotely will solve that problem.
The number of relays used will depend on how many circuits are opened by the Ravelco unit.
I would install 4PST or 4PDT relay(s) to cut down the number of relays needed, something like this... http://pewa.panasonic.com/pcsd...c.pdf 94

Okay. But doesn't that make the Ravelco useless? Or let me asked this. In your opinion, thinking theft prevention, would you install Ravelco or your own kills? Is the Ravelco system unnecessary?

No it doesn't. Ravelco is useless right off the assembly line. It's been useless since day one.

LOL... It's pretty useless, but it's not the worst thing that you can install on your car....

However, it's not the be-all, end-all security marvel that they make it out to be... Without going into details, it just ain't all that.

Good layer on top of a properly-installed alarm, but that's about it.

I would not install the Ravelco on my car, I do not recommend any kill switch, [remember Ravelco is just a kill switch] where the "switch" is visible, it makes it too easy to fallow the leads, a single [small 1A] hidden on/off switch installed on the ground lead to the PGM-FI Main Relay, [ground for injector relay] is more effective, if for no other reason then it is not visible.

As mentioned, it makes another layer to an overall security system, but like any redundant, [not part of alarm] "kill switch" it will need to be bypassed during remote start.

Do you want remote start or can you live without it? 94

Yea, thats one problem I don't like, it's visible. Another problem I don't like is: What if I in an emergency situation and I want to hurry, up jump in the car and go. I can't do that, I have to fidle with this damn plug. On the other hand, I like the steel casing around the wires and wires not color coded. If I can get my money back, or go back in time, I would not get it. I was just in a rush, I needed to get something for my car. I couldn't sleep, and I was paranoid.

I can live without remote start, it's not that serious to me. But I wouldn't mind having it again. It's just that bothering with the plug thing. (But I guess if I installed a "kill switch" not part of the alarm, I would have to flip them on/off anyway.)

Update to the model bought from Best Buy: The box says Viper 5900
