I have a 14 gauge wire cut into the ground wire on the clutch interlock switch, which runs to my kill switch grounded to the frame. Do i need to put a relay in? What about a fuse holder?

 

from what i believe, the starting circuit already has protection (fuse) and you could use a killswitch directly inline with the clutch interlock, given that you use a lower gauge wire (6 maybe 8? idk) and a killswitch capable of handling high amperage

the route of using a relay to control it works as well but IMO is more of a hassle with wiring

but how it'd work is:

pink wire going towards clutch switch = terminal 30 of relay
other end of that pink wire = terminal 87A i think of relay

now the load side of the relay should be inline before the clutch switch

12v positive = terminal 85
ground to chassis = terminal 86

the killswitch and fuse (idk rating) could be on either 12v positive of ground side of the relay

 

Why would i want to use such a low gauge wire? I understand that it would have more resistance, but current is flowing to the ground (frame of car) in one direction. Whats the problem of using a 22 gauge wire (the same gauge as the ground wire from the interlock switch) to my kill switch (30amp rating)?

I wouldn't use the clutch cancel as a means of a kill switch personally. I would use ignition kill or fuel pump cut. Just my 2 cents

 

right, for a safety kill switch. i would run a kill circuit w/ two relays to cut both ignition and fuel pump with one switch.

however if you're just trying to add another level to a "theft deterent switch" setup the clutch interlock isn't a bad idea. i used to have one on my last civic. no need for relays, used the same gage wire that the interlock switch uses (16..18?) and never had issues.

 

I did not, it is always good to use a relay and a fuse. esp if the wire is longer than a few feet
