Burning Plastic odor
I've checked FAQ's and did a forum search so if this has been asked and answered, my bad.
I get a plastic burning odor when I drive my 05 EX automatic a little harder than usual (and that isn't too rough). I've had the car in the shop with a trusted mechanic and of course he couldn't locate an odor. When I picked up the car I noticed a little metal vibration and the heat shield under the vehicle has started to give. There is still 90% of the heat shield but I'm continuing to get this odor and it is pretty pungent.
Could this odor be from the heat shield?? I've opened the hood and haven't located a smell. I have 80,XXX miles and haven't changed the timing belt..could that be it?
My passenger side window hasn't been working as it should and another member here said he smelled a burning coming from the window. Could it possibly be a wiring issue?
I'm getting a little frustrated and I don't want my 11 mos. old daughter in the car with the odor as bad as it is.
Help a brother out please!
Thanks all,
V.T.

Burning wire insulation will make that smell. Also, a moving part rubbing against a plastic part will make that smell. Like the tire rubbing against the inner fender although, it will usually make a noise when it rubs. I would investigate the wiring starting with that door.
I had the same thing happened to me, it happened to be the wiring for my ebay fog lights burning. Check your in cabin wiring and possibly the window wiring that's not working.
I have had the same problem, But i noticed where the rears have a neg camber the inner wall and 1 quarter of the tyre get extremely hot and produce this burning plastic/rubbery smell....
is the smeel inside or outside, if you got neg camber check the inner tyre walls.. mite be low on rubber...
