Default AC Compressor on F22B1

When replacing an AC compressor, is the clutch kit required? Also, is it necessary to remove the freon to replace the compressor. Thanks.

It's the law. Releasing freon into the air is a violation of law. Just take it to a shop and they'll evacuate it for like 20 or 30 bucks. If you try to remove it yourself the pressure inside can seriously hurt you if you try to take it off without removing the pressure first.

You can usually get a reman compressor with a clutch for about the same price as a new compressor. If you don't know if the problem is either part it's best to just get both, imo.

They usually recommend to get a new dryer as well when the system is ever opened.
