Ok so I've tried searching and just see 2 different answers everywhere I look.

What ecu do I need for my integra?? Do I need a p28 with the jumper harness or can I chip the existing p75? I would really rather retain my obd2 if possible.

Also would all of the obd2 parts - distributor / injectors etc. Work with the obd1 ecu if I have to go that route?

I'm sure this question has been debated over plenty of times, but I'm just looking for someone to tell me YES, your p75 can be chipped and work, retaining all of the great features of obd2. Or, NO, you need to use the chipped p28 and a jumper harness.

P.s. car is a 96 b20 teg that is getting a t3/t4 setup. I wanted to go with a hondata s300

 

there is no reliable option that can retain obd2. all you need to convert to obd1 is a jumper harness.

 

you must use an obd1 ecu to run hondata. there are obd1 p75's so maybe thats where people are confused, saying you can use it. as stated above, get the obd1 ecu with s300 installed and an obd2a conversion harness. everything else will work just fine.

 

Ok, so exactly what do I want as far as the ecu is concerned? I see chipped p28's all over craigs, will that work for an integra? Or do i need to get a pre 94 p75?

 

Which engine are you using specifically?

If it is a VTEC engine (Or at least a VTEC head), the use a P28 (whether it is "chipped" or not will not matter, as it will need to be "rechipped" to Hondata S300 specifications). As long as the ECU is obd1 you're fine.

If, however, this is an LS engine, you can either use a non-vtec P75 or perhaps even a P06 non-vtec OBD1 ECU. Check Hondata's ECU compatibility chart for more options based upon the P28 , P75 and P06. you'll find a more precise answer to your application there.

 

any obd1 ecu will work. best bet is to buy an ecu that has the s300 pre-installed. As The Shodan said, the s300 uses a different "chipping" procedure.

Hondata even sells ecu's with obd2a plugs and s300 installed. this would avoid the need for a jumper harness.

yes that is true. again, any obd1 ecu can work.

 

I can do a non-VTEC OBD1 ECU (P05, P06, P75) with a new s300 pre-installed for $650 shipped with tracking and insurance.

I can do a VTEC OBD1 ECU (P28) for $25 more.

If you want an OBD2a to OBD1 harness, add $60 - my harnesses are NOT Ebay compatible ;-)

if you're set on an s300, it's a great setup. however, a stock b20 isn't going to be able to make THAT much power before the bottom end gets nervous.

with either combo you'll have to spend $300 on an actual tune

but, $100-150 can get you a crome chipped ecu. that's between $500 and $650 less than the s300. true you get less but what exactly are your plans for this engine?

just because you make less power doesn't mean you should use a cheaper tuning program. why would someone feel more comfortable making 300whp on crome vs 600hp. if the program is doing its job, it shouldnt matter how much power you make.

 

the s300 has a few pretty cool features, boost by gear is one of the more popular. it's not really the hp, it's the features. it's just something you really have to ask yourself, is it worth that much more money?

 

so let me get this straight. vendors pay monthly marketing fees here and you just pop your own products without doing so?
