Default k20 running crappy

i have a 02 rsx and i blew the motor so i bought a jdm k20a and put that in my car. i tried running it off my stock ecu but my car kept dying so i bought the one for that motor. it fixed the problem but now my motor runs horrible still. it sometimes wont let me go pass 4000 rpm and if it does i dont think vtec is popping. and acceleration is really bad! mopeds can beat me from a start. my motor doesnt sound to smooth or healthy but anyone know why my car is acting bad? i heard the head might be bad. i also have oil and good oil pressure and bottom end is strong
thanks

you may to be the king of spending money with no research......
1) base ecu from the k20a3 dc5 would never run any motor from japan except the base dc5 motor and that would run like crap because of the different gas.
2) every k motor from from the jdm is stamped k20a....so the motor could have the halfa$$ed vtec like your base dc5 and the usdm ep3. It couple the real vtec on the intake cam only from the jdm type-s, it could be the type-r motor from the ep3-r( this motor is more or less a k20a2 like the usdm dc5-s) or it could be the jdm dc5-r that everyone wants.....only way to tell is pull the valve cover to look at the cams and do a compression to see what the compression ratio is....
3) any jdm ecu is tuned for the jdm gas that has a higher octain than the usdm gas....so any ecu from the jdm is going to run like crap....

my sugestion is figure out what motor you have and get kpro and have the motor tuned.......before you blow it up again.

anytime you do an engine swap not what you had... you should have a tuneable ECU and get it tuned to run/work correctly. Get kpro

Pop the valve cover and make sure of which k20a engine you have to be safe. Also search.. i would have spent less on a k24 swap and gotten more power

Sounds like your timing chain also. It probably jumped a tooth.
