Default TOP HATS and there benefits

ive been looking around for a while and maybe its already been posted and ive missed it but iv come across several post about people talking about top hats but no real straight to the point of why they are used the benefits of using them and the down side to using them. So i was wondering if someone could explain there exact use and how will it benefit me if i were to use them

thanks

It would only give you a better ride if you were riding on your bumpstops.

It's to prevent your shock from bottoming out. It doesn't prevent your control arms from banging into things.

so basically all it does is allow the shock to come up threw the tower more then it already does then right? and as far as the control arms hitting the fender well i would have to cut them correct? if so then there just a wast of money i take it?

The control arms would be hitting the frame of the car.

Can't trim that.

You can't do it.

Define "good."

Being comfortable with 600F/900R doesn't mean that's a "good ride."

You're talking about defying physics. And your spine.

Only if your bottoming out. All it does is extend the shock travel for lowered cars so the shock itself doesn't bottom out internally, which can and will destroy shocks.
