HELP PLEASE. 1991 Crx d16 (Mini-me) weird screeching engine noise
Hello H-T,
First off I have a 91 CRX 1.6 mini-me build SOHC (d16ablock with d16z head) on 10 psi with a 57 trim. I was driving long down the highway in 5th and was boosting a little bit maybe around 7-8 psi when I hear a loud bang type noise. I get off at the next exit and pull off to see what was up and then as I got off the exit and approached the light I noticed what seemed to be a loud-screeching spinning noise? I pulled over to check things out and it looked like my timing belt was getting ready to slide off. and then below that it looked like my crankshaft pulley has been sheared off??>>
I am not really sure what happened and will bring it to a shop tuesday... I didn't get into boost after that and when I would drive cruising around 2000-3000 rpms, slow down and approach a stoplight it would still make the screeching noise. Can anyone shed some light on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated... Please and thank you!

pulley bearings shot...
keep that going any longer... bye bye engine due to time slip or snap the belt...
wat r u doing on a 57 trim turbo ?? 10psi is understandable... if ur stock... but a 57 trim will cause more turbo lag, and if u run 10 psi on a bigger turbo then lets say a 16g turbo, u get more power out of the bigger one... so if u got stock sohc... downgrade the turbo to have better efficiency

Ahhh thank you so much CRXR. How positive are you that it is the pulley bearing, and how much, or difficult is that to get fixed ( any ideas)?? I don't want my engine to go : ((((
Its a precision 57 trim, yeah I know its a little big and inefficient right now, but Im not stock, have eagle h-beams and wiseco75.5 8.5-1 pistons. I plan on getting my basemap to run a little better. and then turning up the boost and see how she does.

Pulley bearing huh?
Take your car to a good shop and have them diagnose the problem. Trying to do so over the internet based off of a person's descriptions is not the best way to solve your issues. Last thing you want to be doing is guessing and being inaccurate, which can/will lead to wasted money.
Pics would be helpful.

Did the crank pulley bolt break? if that broke, your crank pulley would not be flush to the crank timing belt gear, causing that to move around, explaining your timing belt issue. The loud bang could have been the bolt head spinning off and hitting the frame of the car.
something is not lining up... check your crank shaft end play. something is edging your belt to fall off and it could be worn crank shaft bearings...or your tensioner is faulty and it can lead to a loose timing belt.
keep on diagnosing it.
keep on diagnosing it.
Thank you thank you everyone. Yes the diagnostic from the shop was that the crank pulley has come off , the alternator belt is gone, explain my battery light, I guess i'll need the crank pulley, key way, bolt, and timing belt kit... its at the shop now, will find out the details tomorrow!
