Default bad oil pump?

i have a b16 and the motor was sitting for around a year. well i started it and daily drove it for two weeks, then just out of no where my oil light came on, but good thing i just pulled into my yard. well i checked the oil lever and it was full. so the next day i turned my motor over and the oil light remained on. i checked my oil filter and it was dry. so i dropped my oil pan and cleaned the oil pickup tube filter and the problem remained. is it a bad oil pump and could it go out that quick?
thanks

depends on how the motor was stored if it was turned everyonce in a while it could be ok if it justr sat exposed then its very possible it could have seized from sitting

whats the weather like in your area? does it shift? is it in a shed or a basement?

Go out that quick? Since you didn't list what year we're talking about that pump could be anywhere from 11-19 years old.

And you're running the engine without proper oil flow? Bad idea. Just replace the pump and be done with it.

Engine wouldn't spin if that were the case.

i do believe he was talking about the pump not the motor lol, and replace the pump and if that doesnt solve your problem there could be a blockage somewhere, when it was stored was there oil in it?

I seriously doubt if the mechanical "teeth" on the pump went south. If it sat for a long time maybe you got some crap in the gallies? Maybe the wrong or defective oil filter/ I had a friend who bought a brand new Mobil 1 out of the box and it blew his engine. Something was wrong with the internals of the filter and was not allowing oil to pass through. Mobil 1 ate the cost of a new engine after he had the filter independently examined by a couple of businesses that specialize in that.

Then get a new filter. But don't keep running that engine with no oil flow.

your right of course i wasn't thinking about what i said...of course if the motor runs the pump is turning....thats my dumbness.

i would say crudded up galleys as well...also was the oil used when it went into storage because i was always told a stored engine needed to be filled with fresh oil..but maybe that was just an **** thing by some people
