Default Question about oil filters

How bad would it be to your engine if you only change the oil and not the oil filter?

Depends on how dirty/old the oil in the motor is.

say if you are changing 3 month old oil , but only has 500 kms on it, sure no problem leaving the filter.

But if you are changing 5k , dirty black oil. Might as well change the filter.

Well, a general oil filter change is every other oil change but most just do it all together each time. Don't tell me you've never done it...

Stock air box says change oil and filter every 7500 miles,i dont think it would be good i would change filter with every oil change at max 3500 miles,if some filters get plugged up they bypass the filter then your in the danger zone

The question is, how much do you really care about maintaining your motor? It will only cost you anywhere from 5-20 bucks extra. Overlooking what you feel is "minor" can possibly result in a MAJOR problem down the line. I rather spend another 15 bucks on a royal purple filter doing all I can to preserve and protect my investment.

You decide, here is a great recent thread about just that:

I will never use regular Fram filters again.

Well I personally use Royal Purple 5W20 and so naturally I buy the filter as well. It's pricey, yes...but you get what you pay for. Do some research, I'm sure there are more than one thread touching up on the subject. Then if you want, give it a try.

Hm, I have a HM Fram filter. Think it's of the metal end Fram quality? My engine is crap, anyways. Don't know why I really care.

Make sure they're the A01 type. Look at the link I posted to find out why.

I dont think he HAS to fin out. Some are perfectly content with what they have. No offense, but you just seem really paranoid about it. As a company such as FRAM, while the item looks like **** would not continually put out an inferior product. They'd go out of business. So, theie filters have to be fine to some extent.

as many people around here i've seen go with fram filters, i'd say their defect rate isnt THAT bad

it has been proven though, that fram filters are of MUCH lower quality than other brands

and i cannot account for the life/health of an engine when it uses nothing but fram vs nothing but a different brand

I highly doubt it!!
HAMP synergy H1540-PLC-505 or Honda 15400-PLM-A01, whichever is cheaper when I am running low.

That's about 9300 miles. So, you've missed three oil changes. Bad but not catastrophic. Is it a FRAM filter? I'd assume it destroyed if it is.

Dude... you want to ruin your motor for a $3 filter? What an infantile mindset. Give up a cheeseburger tomorrow and buy your Honda a filter. How do you think your Honda feels? HUH?
