Default Exhaust heatguards are rusted, can/should I remover them?

I'm replacing the whole exhaust on my 95 hatch and I noticed the heat guards (heat shield, WHATEVER!!) are extremely rusted. My question is if I take them off completely would it mess up the underside of my car? Can I buy replacement heat guards, or is it not that big of a deal? I'd like to remove them completely but but I don't wanna mess anything up and end up with a headache later, ANY INPUT WILL HELP!!!!!

We commonly remove them over here in Canada, most of them have rusted off at least 10 years ago. Have yet to see any issues. I think they're there more in case say the cat gets plugged up and severely overheats as opposed to always being necessary to keep too much heat away from the floor.

that is exactly why they are there. because it doesn't take much heat for carpet to ignite.
