Default b16 obd0 bogging/subaru sounding exhaust

Hey I have an 89 crx with an obd0 b16a. Last week I had a hole in my gas tank and had it sealed up. I drove the car fine for about 300 miles and then at a stop sign the motor lost alot of power as I pulled away. The exhaust note changed and now sounds more throaty and puffy hah you hear it burp every rotation of motor. It also vibrates a lot between like 2-3.5k rpms. I have good fuel pressure, checked vaccum and compression and both are good. I checked my dist cap and rotor and both are fine. My plugs smelt like gas and were pretty black so I got new plugs and I still have the problem although it KINDA feels like power is better a little bit but still sounds rough. Also the car is not throwing a CEL. Do you think it's possible that somehow something got into the tank and has it clogged somewhere or possibly the timing? I dont know where to go from here.....Thanks

Andrew

Anyone have any ideas? Im going to check and see if the plug wires are bad and test with a different set. Any help is appreciated, only have 1 day to figure this out before I have to drive the car back to school with no tools or garage space. Thanks

I havent checked the timing yet but its on the to do list. I don't have a top timing cover so is there a mark on the block that I could line up instead? I mean the car wasn't being driven hard or anything when it happened, just pulling up to a stop sign and its been happening since. I listened and it doesn't sound like the valves or tapping or anything to where they would be bent. I think it'd be fuel related since that is the most recent adjustment or if somehow the timing went bad.

Ok just changed out the wires and it's still sounding rough. I'm going to go pick up a fuel filter in a bit and swap that out. If it was clogged though, wouldn't I have lower fuel pressure? I have a fuel pressure gauge right on top of the filter and I still have good pressure. I just dont want to keep replacing random parts if it isn't helping. Thanks for the suggestions thus far

Could be possible that the belt skipped time or you have an igniter that may be going bad

By just looking at the cam gears why both seem to be in the same degree but that is without checking it with a light. By igniter do you mean like the icm(ignition control module)? Also I replaced the fuel filter and still loss of power.

Yea I mean the ICM. Ive been having what seems like a similar problem. At first my car was misfiring and running rough and bogging. Then finally I threw a bad ICM code. Brought it to the mechanic and he changed the dizzy and noticed the car had skipped time by 2 teeth. It runs better now but not 100%. Just figured it may be something to check.

before u start wasting more money and guessing were to go next, check youre CEL. by what you are telling me sounds like an injector problem. check every injector by pressing down on them, they have a clip and sometimes it pops out.. put sum pressure on the injector plugs and im pretty sure youll hear the difference on it.

As suggested by others

1. Check timing
2. Replace distributor

I doubt he has a fuel delivery problem if his plugs are soaked in fuel. It is most likely timing or ignition related.
