serious problem with the dumb steering
The car is an 89 crx dx.
So today im backing out of a parking space in an apartment complex. I have the steering wheel turned all the way left while backing out. I stop and try to straighten out the wheel but it will only turn so far before it stops. It wont go far enough right for me to go straight. So I put some force on it and then I heard a noise like something just broke. The steering wheel now turns all the way around without stopping like a ferris wheel. The tires don't move at all. So the car cant be driven at all. What did I break?

This should be really easy to diagnose since its a manual rack. First look under your steering column behind the pedals and look for the joint that joins the column to the steering rack. Look for any obvious breaks in the joint, also move the wheel to ensure the teeth didn't round off. If all that looks good jack the car and remove the wheels. Have another person turn the steering wheel while you inspect the inner and outer tire rod ends. If everything appears to be in working condition you probably damaged the gears inside the rack and it would probably be easy to just replace it than rebuild it. Good luck!
