Default Media Tumblers?

Hey guys,

I'm curious if anyone on here has any experience with these types of machines. I'm trying to get an idea of how they work. What condition do the parts have to be in before putting them, and how do they come out?

If I were to throw in a dozen raw stainless sch 10 elbows, would they come out nice and minty, or what?

Anyone have examples or pics or videos?

Thanks!

btw: Looking at the 150 or 200 ...

If you use the right media and water, for around a day or two, great results. A very nice shine. Check out MAPerformace fab thread on here. Thats what they use. Been looking into one for a while, but, in the 150 and 200 model your looking at how many can you fit at a time? 4 maybe 6?

We have a mr debur 5hp, 3 ph rectangular box model and it's incredibly irritating (sound level) and slow. We never use it unless we are polishing ceramichrome parts we coat. We use these little microbrite media with soap, takes forever.

The 150 volume is roughly 650"^3
The 200 volume is roughly 1075"^3

Depends on how much media you need to use, but if you used half of the volume with media you'd have room for about a dozen weld els with the 200 roughly. (I'm figuring a weld el is 2"x4"x4"ish for simplicities sake).

Either that or my math totally sucks.

I've looked into getting small ones like this for blasting bolts, nuts, washers. Just to clean up a lot of the small stuff no one thinks about.

It all depends on the media you use. Make sure you get the right hardness/grit for what you want. And yeah it's going to take a while especially for larger pieces.

I use a small one for cleaning bullet casings. Works great, but brass it easier to clean and polish as opposed to stainless.

Ive recently been using a cheap HF unit with aggressive ceramic star media with some good results. It really smooths out the surface and Ive found that my elbows take about 5-6 hours and I use a simple green water solution with my media. With a coupon i think the total cost of the unit and media was about $150 and it has the capacity to hold about 12-15 1 1/2 elbows at a time.

Manifolds that I don't coat get the elbows wire wheeled then vibrated. Gives them a really nice polish and finish. I feel like the vibrated elbows weld a bit cleaner.

We had the 200sx at my old shop and it worked great, used it with the water pump running water through the system with the ceramic media. Used it to de-burr gears, clean and polish hardware and other misc stuff.

BTW it's loud as hell so we normally let it run overnight.

Well I found that harbor freight does sell a bigger one then was at my local store. They had a 5lb one that would hold maybe 3-4 1.5 sch10 weld els. So I bought the 18lb one that right now I have 12 of the weld els in right now. Im using the heavy duty ceramic media right now with water. I'll keep everyone updated as i see results. Right now the plan is to run them for 10-20 hours to really knock down the pitting so I can buff them out to a nice shine. Hopefully there is some good results for the money spent.

I left them in for 36hours so far. I must say, I'm not impressed for the amount of time... I'm using ceramic media, maybe thats the problem. I feel i need something more course to really eat the metal up. Bit don't get me wrong, they are very smooth, but no pretty looking

You need to use a cleaner and or burnishing compund fluid if you want to have any acceptable shine. It will take anywhere from 3-6 hours and 2 different medias to achieve this. If you dont have a larger machine where you can put a lrger quantities of bends in its really not feasable for most.
