Default DPFI to MPFI ecu question

Im in the middle of converting my 88 dx ef to MPFI and dont know if I can use my stock PM5 ecu. Some people tell me that I have to use a PM6 ecu but will a PR3 ecu run a sohc motor with no problems?Reason I want to use a PR3 if possible is that I eventually plan on dropping a b series and dont want to buy a PM6 for the sohc now then buy a PR3 for the b series later.

You can not use the PM5 - it only controls 2 injectors and you will have 4.
PM6 is obviously the best bet.
PR3 will work to some extent, but it won't run perfect. To answer your question, it will have problems.

Get the PR6 - you can sell it when you get the B motor.

IAT is not on the manifold for the Y8 - it is in the air box.
typical work-around is to relocate your IAT into the intake arm near the throttle body. Just poke a hole through it if you are using a stock arm or drill a hole if you have an aftermarket CAI (nice ot put a couple screw in it if you have aftermarket).

The other sensors all should work fine.

PM6 is MPFI OBD0.
You need to use an MPFI OBD0 distributor.

If you were using an OBD1 ECU then you could use and OBD1 or OBD2 distributor.
The difference between OBD0 and OBD1/OBD2 is the reluctor wheel inside that has a different tooth count. It sends a different number of pulses to the the ECU and will throw off timing.

Anything with MPFI D16A6 will definitely work - Si and EX sedans.
I think the Hf CRX distributor may work as well, but I never tried.
