Default VTEC engaging way too late. Need advice.

my car is almost completely stock except for mugen head gasket, exhaust, and intake. vtec only kicks in at 6000 rpm. as far as i know, it kicks in at 5500 rpm stock. ecu is p30, b16a from EG6. need advice to know what causes this. thanks.

VTEC with a JDM P30 is 5800. Other P30 ECUs have engagment as low as 5600 from the factory.

8,200 on second gen JDM B16s. First gen JDM and USDM B16s are either 7,800 or 8k.

I would say its most likely just a faulty tach. If its still the stock gauge that is. Quality aftermarket gauges are usually spot on. Is the ECU chipped? Most chips get rid of the rev limiter though so you would know if it was or not.

i only did the engine swap etc. the gauge is originally the twin carb. after market gauges in my country cost a fortune. not at the moment. it will be chipped soon. you're probably right. according to the rpm, vtec kicks in at 6000rpm and cuts at 7800rpm..
