Default Gearset & Final drive compatibility among cable D-Series transmission cases

Interested in knowing if gearsets and final drives are compatible among all D-series transmission cases? I am specifically in knowing if a Civic/CRX Si gearset & final drive would work in a STD 4-Spd case or would the case have to be a 5spd?

I have found a gearset and final drive for a Si cable and wondering if it would be purchasing and in what case it would have to go.

Thanks in advance!

I've never opened up a 4spd tranny, but if the provision is there for the 5th gear shift fork, then I don't see why it wouldn't work. Of course you'll also need a 5th gear shift fork.

Copy and pasted from your thread in the Trans forum.

The Si internals will work fine.

The 4spd is a 5spd trans with a few changes: spacer collars in place of 5th gear and 5th gear sleeve assembly, different shift fork rods and no 5th gear shift fork, no reverse lockout.

Swap the gear stacks and ring gear to the 4spd case along with the shift fork assembly and add the reverse lockout in. You'll need to shim the mainshaft.

I assume you would need:

24200-PL3-010 FORK, FIFTH GEARSHIFT
24243-PL3-010 PIECE, FIFTH & REVERSE SHIFT
24271-PL3-010 SHAFT, SHIFT FORK (5-R)
96211-10000 BALL, STEEL (#10) (5/16)
96220-50100 ROLLER (5X10)
24455-PG1-300 SPRING, SHIFT FORK SETTING

From this pic:

Some problems arise with availability of parts....?

Those and the reverse lockout plus a mainshaft shim. You'll have to use the 4spd bearings so add them in if any are bad.

As long as the diff is the same as the case, you can pretty much go to town swapping **** between cable d-series.

Upstate. I picked up a 91 CRX Si tranny last night. If it turns out to be bad or anything like that, I WILL be in touch with you!
