S2000 or MKIII MR2
I'm expecting there to be a little bias here seeing it's a Honda board and all, but I figured you guys would give me the most honest answers.
Anyway, a few days ago out of no where I wanted a white MR2 (02-05). I started researching and found they are priced perfectly for me. I have a 2005 Scion tc that is paid off, so I could literally swap my car for an 02 MR2.
Not soon after the s2000 popped up in my head. I thought, well ****, as long as I'm going down the path of getting another car, why not get what I've always wanted.
So low and behold there is a 05 (WHITE -a must) bone stock s2000 for sale about a half hour south of me. One owner (47 year old guy), the vin checked out clean.
I'm heavily pressing towards the S2000, but my only worry is the theft. I've had two GSRs stolen in my lifetime (lived in different states each time, not blingy at all).
So do I take the plunge on the s2000? Or will I get just as much fun out of an MR2?
Thanks for time.

search. and i dont think anyone on here i going to tell u that the mr2 is a better choice unless they r being sarcastic. only way i would rock one is if i did a k20 swap on it
very different cars - if you haven't driven an S2000 (esp. in the 6-9k revs range, and esp. round corners), then you must do that before deciding.
The S2000 is a bespoke car designed at quite an extreme level. An engine that won award after award and was one of the highest hp/litre cars in production for many years.
It also wins all kinds of Driver awards, Top Gear car of the year for 4 or 5 years as voted by owners.
It's an amazing car that the numbers alone don't do justice.
That said, the MR2 is a capable car (i haven't owned one, but a friend did and regularly let me drive it - MY04 i think). Great fun, but i don't think it's in the same league as an S2000.
Excuse my bias.

if someone want's your car, there isn't anything you can do to stop them from taking it...if they are really after it. That's why you have insurance.
Buy what you like, because you like it. Not because of what you read on the internet.
I've owned 2 different s2000's, AP1 and AP2. AP2 is far superior to AP1 in every aspect, and definitely worth the price difference.

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
The AP2 is superior to the AP1 in most ways. That's a fact. It may not be easy to accept...but it's true.
As far as MR2 vs. S2000...there's really NO comparison. There's absolutely nothing that the MR2 does better. The only advantage is price. But for a few thousand more, you can have 100 more hp, a better chassis and suspension, better looks, HID headlamps, etc. etc. If the MR2 had like...rear seats or something, I could see that being an advantage for some people...but...there's honestly nothing that's better about the MR2.
Drive both.

once you take ownership... make sure the spring spacers arent still there, adjust and tighten the throttle cable and buy seat locks for both.
I haven't driven my S2000 in months. It's parked outside and I'm trying to sell it and honestly it would be best for everyone if someone just stole it. Alas, it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. It's too much of a rare car. It sticks out like a herd of pink elephants, and it doesn't seem like the wisest choice for what you'd want to steal.
The seats though, yeah those get stolen. Ideally you get insurance, in which case you can either freak out for some unknown reason that someone stole your seats, or you can enjoy the fact that you're about to get new ones along with a new roof for free. That's how it was for me. It complimented perfectly the fact that the roof has issues with wear.

Well it seems that the banks are still not crazy on lending for private sales. What a pain in the ***.
So I'm looking through dealerships now. I keep coming across Z4s. How does the 2.5 or 3.0 compare with the s2000?

At this point, whether it be an s2000, z4, or mr2, I need to get funding.
It's ridiculous that I'm having trouble with this too. My credit is fine, own a house, etc.
The stipulation put on by the banks that keeps biting me in the ***, is they want me to buy the car from a dealership and not a private seller. I like dealing with private sellers more and I can save a few grand at it.
So far I've learned that Chase with lend for a private party purchase but the car can't be older than a 2005 and the mileage no more than 75k
Bank of America will also do it it, car has to be 2004 and mileage 99k.
Has anyone had experience lately with trying to get a car loan?

skip the z4 unless it's a m version, it's a fine cruiser but honestly not even in the same segment as s2000/mr2 in term of performance.
off the shelf the S2000 would be more fun to drive but don't mistake the mr2 being a dull car, it's very rewarding to drive one around the track at its limit. How much modification are you looking to do on the future car? A k series in a MrS would be very very fun, not to mention the potential of layout and weight. If my memory serves me right, the gen 3 Mr2/S is much lighter than gen 2(turbo) which is about the same weight as S2000(2800 +-)
I personally not too crazy about the yamaha GTS celica motor, my sister has one and it's not nearly as good as the K series(stock and modified) but perhaps it's because i am just love working on a honda.

I got one last May from my local credit union without any issues, and there was no limits on age or mileage. I do have a house and had a previous car loan through them so that could be part of the reason. Maybe you should look into a credit union.
I owned a 2zz swapped MR2 before buying my S2k, they are 2 totally different cars. Both look & handle great, albeit differently. Unless your planning on doing the swap, or a turbo kit don't even bother with the MR2. Even if you do the work you're still stuck with a shitty Toyota ( or Yamaha) motor at the end of the day. Also the Spyder forum sucks, there are 5 cool guys who actually know about cars, and the rest are a bunch of 50 year old little girls.
