I got this one for $324 Shipped.. brand new packaged sealedwarranty serial #'s everything on ebay (indoaudio@aol.com sells them regularly). I got the green illumination because I don't have a type R and it matches my white/green dash nicely. But it comes in amber too - supposedly matches quite nicely to the rest of an R dash..
I'm not sure if they "jam" occasionally.. do you mean the cd gets stuck?
Install was a breeze besides all the soldering and cutting my hand from the metal in the dash

thanks guys!!! The sound quality is AMAZING over stock! Bass sounds so much clearer/deeper..
Now... next step.. speakers/speaker wire.. any suggestions? i'm leaning towards component speakers?
in the future might want an amp - not yet tho!

They do make good stuff but damnit tell them for the money you pay for those things that you want something that looks different from their '88 model

Very nice.
I like the nice stealth look. Definitely sleeper. Nak decks are very nice. I'd have gotten the CD-700 myself.
I'd definitely consider some component speakers and an amplifier if you are serious about the way your stereo sounds.

Well, I assume it's like having a Harmon Kardon or Onkyo reciever in your house. Those two provide excellent sound quality and good power output, but to me in a car I could care less since I depend on my amps for that. I like Clarion decks ... they sound good, look good, don't cost too much...been using them for almost 9 years now.

I concur. What's the big deal?

In short, it's the best sounding headunit you can buy for under $1000...yeah. And it only costs $300.

Pioneer P1R
Pioneer Premeir DEQ-P9
Pioneer ODR
Sony C90
Clarion HX-D10 (for 300 this was my pick...definitely superior IMO)
Alpine 7909
Clarion 9255
Denon DZ10 (something like that....
)And pretty much anything Eclipse sells, including the model with the 16V Balanced outs.
All of these heads can be had either new or used for under 1000 and are definitely a step above the Nak 45z. Some of these heads include timealignment, multiple bands of EQ, while others are simply excellent cd transports. Best sounding for 300...I think you have a good argument, but not for 1000
The Nak has no sub level control, an internal amplifier (no good for SQ), and has a nasty habit of breaking. It also doesn't officially support CD-R and CD-RW discs. You also much choose your illumination (amber or green) you don't get both. The whole CD transport thing is another issue with this head, and has been covered extensively over at sounddomain, and a few other boards....combine that with the financial problems that they were experiencing, and it's just a mess.
The heads biggest selling point is it's dual 24bit DAC's....and it's easy to argue that you won't be able to hear the difference between 24, 20 or even good 1 bit dac's. The reason I really liked it, is that it doesn't make your car look like a space shuttle...it's very clean and elegant. Personally I find it to be one of the best looking heads out there...it's very factory looking.
I'm not saying it's a bad head...I was very, very close to getting one, but saying it's the best out there for under 1000 is inaccurate IMO.
I hope you got one of the "good" ones. All that matters in the end is that you are happy. Enjoy.
If you want specs....go to http://www.nakamichi.com -- they are all there
