Default 83 Civic 1300 4 speed to 5 speed conversion

Has anyone done this? Does the 1500 5 speed tranny bolt up directly?

I won't be able to help right now, but this summer I was planning to swap transmissions in my 83 1300FE. Currently it has a very tall/highway geared 5 speed, and I'm going to swap it out for the quicker ratio'd trans from my old 83 1500s. I haven't even begun to check if this would work, but I would think it should.

What is the engine code of your 1300? I don't pretend to know a whole lot about these cars, but if it's the same engine code as my 1300 (I'll check later), then I think that should tell us that a 5 speed will mount to you engine, since there's one stock on mine.

Do you have a 5 speed trans lined up for your engine?

Hey thanks for responding.

I can't find the engine code because it is buried under an inch of grease and dirt.Do you have any idea where it may be?

I have a tranny out of 82 GL lined up at a junkyard here locally. I seriously doubt it is going anywhere for awhile as the activity on these cars is about zero.

Interesting about the 1300 FE being so high geared. I definitely will make sure i do not get one of those trannies by mistake. Is there a code on that trannie that you can find?

It is not a priority to swap the trannie right now as the 4 speed is working fine. I have a lot bigger fish to fry on restoring the car. i can wait to see how your transplant works out.
