Default Tie Rod question 96-99 ek HB..**IMPORTANT, OPEN**

Okay so i replaced the axel today on my car and was moving my wheel back in forth as if the wheel bearing is bad, but where the tie rod part with the ball goes into the rack-n-pinion, some of the casing is broke (inner tie rod socket) and it wobbles around a little..was wondering if i need a hole new rack-n-pinion or if I a can replace that..lmk if you have any questions or answers lmk, thanks

and also would you have to take the motor out to take just the rack out??lmk thanks

Take a look at the helms manual (or on-line parts catalog at Majestic Honda)to see what parts you are looking at, if it is not leaking fluid(assuming you have power steering) then all you might have to do is replace the inner tie rod end(it unscrews) and yes I have replaced rack-n--pinion with the engine still in the car.

I've heard you MIGHT be able to slide out the rack with the subframe still on, but if that's too tricky just pop off your subframe. Messed around with mine this weekend. Just undo the steering column joint...pull off the knuckles and lcas, undo where the power steering lines bolt to the subframe on the top side *should be below and just to the right of your intake mani if you're facing your car from the front* and put a jack with a piece of wood under the subframe and undo the 6 big bolts holding it on. Then you'll have the whole steering rack right there.

Good time to replace the steering rack bushings, and rack end bushings.

there is no power steering on the car, but the casing the holds the ball of the inner tie rod is chipped on the side and when i drive over 60 the wheel shakes a little bit.. thought it was the bad axel, i changed that and it didn't shake as much, but like i said before i took it off the lift i shook the wheel and it was as if the wheel bearing was bad, but then i pulled the boot back on the inner tie rod where it connect with the pinion and a piece of the casing was chipped off and i would move the wheel and look at it and the ball you bounce around a little bit..normally they shouldn't move at all, but because the casings broke the ball bounces around. So pretty much was wondering if i have to change the hole pinion or is there a way just to fix that one side..

The red box is the casing im talking about thats cracked
