In regard to leaving your car to service, how to prevent it?
I know this is based ont he other thread, but I feel this one is enough for a different one.
We all know that stuff like this can happen. We drop our cars off at dealers and let them do their work. But how can we make sure that they do screw with our stuff and if they do, what should we do?
The other threads have ideas, but calling SVT or beating his *** ain't my thing.

if you do need to leave it, many dealers will let you watch the work being done on the car. they really are striving to offer awesome service because that is how a dealer makes money.

preform the work your self...and get the Helms bible
It's much better doing the work yourself. The other alternative is to know a mechanic that can do all the work for you.

I work at a honda dealer during the summer and winter as a service advisor. Understand the service advisor is dealing with 30-40 customers a day, basically, all we do is get your car tagged and prepare you to shell out the money. TALK TO THE TECH. That is the BEST thing you can do. Service Advisors tend to treat you like you have no background in automobiles and just insult your intelligence. Speaking with the technician, the guy that is actually going to be working on your car, and reassure yourself that it isn't a 19 year old punk like me.

I had to leave my car at the dealership to replace the short block when i spun a bearing at 10k miles. I wanted to fix it myself, but everybody said to take it in. So I towed it over the naples acura (over 100miles away) because Mike K was working there and thought he could help me out. Well the service department is different from the parts department so it was not much help. 2 months later i finaly got a new short block (after they tried to fix it once and i got 25 miles out of it). How did i get my car back? Completly covered in white over spray, a nice dent/ding on the inside of my door jam and 3 loose bolts inside the tranny from them beating out the shift linkage pin. Needless to say, next time i'm doing it myself, beside the B's will pretty much kill the rest of my warrenty anyways

I dont know that you can.
I had my shelby clone being repainted at a ford dealer several years back. I had just put in a new built engine in it about a month earlier.
When I went to pick my stang up, some little punkass came up to me, and told me how sweet it is, and he couldn't believe how fast it was....
There was so much going on with paperwork, checking out a orange peel, radiator overheating, etc that I didn't pay much attention to him. When I got home I thought... how the F@CK does he know how fast it is! Anyway, 5 years later my engine burns oil like the mob.
