hvlp gun nozzle size?!
whats the best nozzle size to use for prime? base? clear? ive heard its better for each to be different size.. i just dont remember the sizes for each. im just learning how to paint so im learning the basics
for primer surfacer i usually used a 1.7 needle/nozzle... sealer was usually a 1.3-1.4 and base and clear was usually a 1.3... always wanted to use 1.2 but never had the needle.
it is possible to buy three nozzles for one gun... but you need the nozzle/aircap/needle together.

Not all nozzles are universal. Depending on what type of brand gun you get will determine what brand nozzle you can use

for primer, just use any cheapo gun, cause it's just primer, nothing real special. For painting, I like using Sata's and I also have a Iwata that I use every once and awhile...I have a Devilbiss GTI that I'm trying to sell. I only used it maybe 10-15 times, but I'm just not a fan of their guns.
Yea good pointing didn't think of that lol that nozzles aren't universal. I'm proly gonna go on eBay and get a cheap gun with like a 1.8 or 1.7 nozzle for primer.

for the most part the gun nozzle size will be different on a primer gun then a base gun. and you dont wanna have to go thru the trouble of making sure a primer gun is spotlessly clean, and then change the nozzle and needle. not to mention if primer catalyzes in the gun. youre gonna have to soak it in lacquer and hope for the best. but you want to have different guns for each application. so the transitions are seamless from each application. but if a budget doesnt allow it.. you do what you can.

My setup is Prime:1.5 Base 1.3 and Clear 1.4
as far as devilbiss guns go, I've used the finishline series, and I'm very impressed for the price, my shop got them for free for buying X amount of devilbiss cups and whatnot. I think the whole set is less than 200 bucks. I prefer SATA's, and I've seen Iwatas used, and they're pretty great too. To tell you the truth, the devilbiss PLUS, lays clear out like glass, a buddy let me use it, and it lays better than my SATA
