Cannot get axles back into transmission
Hey so heres my problem... I just did a clutch on my 90 ef and now my axles wont lock back in... Theres what looks like a pin in the tranny going from top to bottom that is preventing me from putting the axles in... Im so stuck and pulling my freaking hair out over this damn problem... Any hepl would be appreciated... Pics of the pin to be posted soon. Thanks
i assume this is a d series motor and trans still? that pin isnt stopping the axles. its the diff pin. on a trans with an LSD you dont see that pin tho. you may have to twist the axle a bit to get the clip at the end of the axle to snap it. are you positive you have the right parts?
Yes its d series 4 speed... And the parts came out of it, i didnt change them over. It fit before and The axles were well lubed up and the open end of the clips were facing down so they lock... I moved the axles all around every way and even beat it with a rubber mallet to try and get it to lock but theyre still a half inch out of the tranny...
give the c clip a squeeze.
put it in the trans and, while spinning/twisting the axle, either use the axle itself as a slide hammer and knock it in, or put the outer in the knuckle and use the weight of the knuckle to knock it in.

you can also try adjusting the clip at the axle end, i had this problem and jacked up the axle so that it was completely straight and not at an angle from the tranny, then i took a rubber mallet and gave it a couple whacks it finally slid in lol.
