I am refinishing my wheels, (Crimson Linea Sports) and made a pretty fatal mistake. I masked off the plastic/acrylic logo on the hex center caps very well... Or so I thought...When I used aircraft stripper to get the clear coat off, a small amount seeped under my masking and ate away at the plastic. Newb mistake, I know. I wanted to separate them from the hex cap, but i could not get it off!
What are my options? I refinished my lips/hardware and they look gorgeous but these caps are disgusting. I cant have a restored wheel with these in their present condition. Any help?? Please!

A picture would help since I am sure they wont have an idea of how bad they are?Can they be repaired or are they past the repair stage?

I don't have a camera at the moment. I worked on them a while last night and I honestly think that I might just have to source another full set of these caps. What a shame.
Are you referring to the gel-type center portion of the cap with the embossed logo set in the resin? If so, then... you may be screwed in to finding new caps or a specialty logo maker that deals with resin-embedded logos.
is it on the surface or did the acid burn all the resin away? if its on the surface only then polish the emblems along w/the hex cap metal wetsanding all the way up over 1000 grit.
either way: good luck

Yeah, its the plastic part of the cap. The stripper did not eat all the way through, just "bubbled" up the edges. Once the wet sanding is done, is there a specific polish (plastic head light polish?) to use? Thanks for the input guys, I know this idiocy on my end doesn't happen too often.

(only being sarcastic, don't take offense by it)As for the polish, I would use a plastic/glass polish at first. If that's not aggressive enough, you can try using aluminum polish.

I'll probably see if a company can do this locally, I don't want to screw these up any more than I have already. Man this sucks...
