I Drive a Stock civic 96 ex y8 has a bad rod.
I was just driving then all a sudden my car dies when i dropped the clutch. i start it back up it dies again and when i start it and drive right away it makes this terrible sound metal to metal sound feels like i lost a cyl. cause bearly any power. and when i pulled over to pop the hood it smelled like burning rubber. so timing belt ? and i tried to see if there was oil and coolant leaking. and nothing so i didn't throw a rod. open the oil cap it was steaming. so did I throw a rod but the rod didn't fly threw the block?
cause if i threw the rod wouldn't my car seize up?
and can't be tranny cause when its out of gear car still make the noise and dies.
so what can it be?

 

Silly question, If you had a bad rod why did you not rebuild it instead of driving it until it blew up? Just go get another one from a junkyard no reason to ponder why you did not fix it to begin with now. The rod can come off and not go through the block it happens to man.

 

If you didn't punch a hole in the block, at least tear the block apart. The block could be used by someone to build another motor. I'd gladly take a block since I have a spare D16 crank just kicking around in my garage, I'll just build one for the fun of it.
