Default BAR'D DA and still got a reff ticket!!!

So i was driving down the road and a cop stopped me for speeding. The first thing he says is pop uur hood. He checks it and said it was illegal. I show him my sticker. The sticker says that its bared for a 95 integra 1.8l. I have a jdm 9 5gsr swaped in there. He said that the motor is a 99 gsr motor. How did he know it was a 99? He pulled out a book and checked the block. I thought there was know no way u can tell what year a jdm block is? Only the head. And my head says 95. So anyways he wrote me a ticket with violattion code cvc 271526 (b) emissions violation? He says I have tto go to a ref station. What can i do? How did he know it was 99 and not a 95?

Did it ever cross your mind to just tell he/she no?

State laws vary, but unless an officer has tangible evidence to warrant a search, he/she can not legally touch your car. At least thats what going on where I'm at. If you say no and they still search and find something you can take it to court and ask for the evidence found to be thrown out because the officer did not have conscent to search your car. Again I dont know how the laws in your state are. It might be worth looking into though.

Some cops like to act like Mr. ****ing Awesome as if they have all mighty power over you. They use this tactic to manipulate you. Rescearch your state laws. Find out exactly what cops can and cant do. It will save you a lot of hassle later. If you were able to legally say no to searches in your state, you would not have this problem now. Just my $0.02 taken from what I've read.

Here, cops like to pull you over for bull **** reasons then look for other violations. I just don't let them look.

OP, it doesn't matter what year is the block. What matters is the year of the head and the year of the ecu. You can have a 99 block with a 95 head and ecu and your car will be bar'd as 95. Hence, your bar sticker states "95 1.8L". That's why we are required to bar our cars. And if your motor is JDM, there is no way on Earth he can figure this out. This cop/pig is really a dick. Instead of catching crooks, drug dealers, they rather spend our tax payers money on giving out petty BS tickets. Same story, just on a different day.

If you have a BAR sticker and you get REF'd anyway, just take it to the ref and have him sign it off and send in a complaint to the police station for wasting your time.

dont go to the ref. go to the judge with proof of the law and argue your case. hopefully then the cop will think before giving out tickets to innocent ppl.

doesnt work that way, you need to present proof of the correction thats stated on the current ticket! the judge will say you have nothing to show you fixed these issues, the old reff info might not be valid for the currect case couse people do remod there cars right after the reff inspections. she or he will want a recent dated document from the reff station saying the car is still legal despite what is stated on the ticket.

I've always wondered if I drove my slightly lowered and otherwise bone-stock exterior (even exhaust) GS-R to Cali if some cop would pull me over. Then I would drive back to MS and say "forget y'all" lol

Nah, you'd be fine.

They'd be too busy harassing me in my slightly lowered, aftermarket wheels, stock exhaust, but limo tinted GS-R instead.

However, my tint has saved me from tickets. I honestly can't count the number of times I've heard, "I'm letting you go with a warning for the speeding/illegal turn/whatever, here's a tint ticket.". Tint is not a moving violation, but is a "fix it ticket". Then I go home, swap out my side windows to the set of untinted ones I have in storage, take it in for inspection, pay the $15 paperwork fee, and enjoy not having to do traffic school...

why present proof of correction when it dosn't need to be corrected? judges are generally smart ppl and will let you argue your case. provide pictures and show what the carb law states.

Actually, they're currently below 19", thanks to giving the car a positive rake.

I've never had a cop make a fuss about headlamp height, nor about my "clear corners" up front. I have had a cop incorrectly tell me that using amber bulbs in the clear lamps is legal (it isn't, the reflector isn't there).

I have had a few cops talk to me about how they do try and enforce the ride height law about needing more ground clearance than tire sidewall. Most have simply said something along the lines of "Your wheels are large enough for your lowering, it's fine.".

Most cops I've met don't really bother enforcing the "bullshit" laws, and instead stick to what makes sense to them (i.e. only what affects safety, either theirs or other people on the road). Unless you give them crap, then they suddenly enforce every single law they can think of.

I really think that the people who claim the cops are "always harassing ricers/imports in Cali" pissed off the cop. I'm a young Asian guy driving what could be considered a somewhat riced import, and they leave me alone for the most part. I've only been pulled over when I was blatantly breaking the law, and even then I usually get a warning...
