Default '96 HX Coupe receiving D16Y7, and 99-00 HVAC

Ok to start off I am new to the import world. And a note I am not a beginer. I am in my late twenties and have be mainly a muscle car/truck guy. I jumped into this project for a work car but trying to keep the sport side to it.

I bought a '96 HX Civic 5 speed shell. It is missing motor, tranny, all AC components(yes condenser to under the dash), axles, all the shifter, ecu, engine harness, all motor mounts, and various nuts/bolt/screws. It does still have all the interior, glove box taken off because blower box and AC box missing, does have heater core box, and all fire wall components.

I also bought a '00 4 door Civic 5 speed for interior parts and got a '98 D16Y7 with tranny that I was told came out of a good running hatch they did a B16 swap in. I did get alot of parts I was missing except the AC stuff.

I plan to swap the 00 AC/radio control panel and all the HVAC components to my '96. I am not sure I will do the dash because I am concerned if all other parts will just transfewr over. I have read up on the conversion so I know I have to tap the wire for the rear defrost, have degree in electrical. My 96 has power doors(windows/locks/mirrors) so I do not want to switch the bay harness over even though I have it because I heard some were having problems with locks working.

So basically my question is, are there any things special about the HX car that would cause problems swaping this motor in? I need an engine harness but I have an ex harness, read it works though not positive.

And for those that want to post it. Yes I would love to just get a D16Y8 or a y8 head or a B16A2 from a 99-00 si civic, or any other swap for power. I have done my searching and researching. I am new to this world so I will take it one step at a time. For now its getting my 90 miles a day work car running and driving.

LOL thanks for reading my novel. I appreciate any help.

I guess I must have not been clear on my question. Will the D16Y7 go into my '96 HX without any problems? I still need a harness for the y7

Yes, the y7 will go right in with no problems since the last motor in the shell was a b-series. You will need a 96-98 CX/DX/LX engine harness, and a P2P ECU if you plan on staying stock. Also make sure it has a 96-98 distributor as well, you can tell by what plug it has.

OK I do have a P2E ecu. I read that EX has o2 wiring from the cab harness and the y7 cars did not, but what about my HX? My car does have the exhaust in it and there is a bung at the front end of what I believe is the cat (right below the firewall) and the y7 has what looks like a cat made to the header

HXs also had the O2 sensor setup like the EXs. I though HXs also had the cat integrated into the manifold, but I could be wrong (we never got HXs in Canada so it's hard for me to check)

So i don't need to add the wiring for the blasted o2 sensor? I wish this car had the motor and tranny it came with. would have been perfect for what i am wanting. ohh well I love to jump into a s**t storm to learn something new.

So where is a good place to find out the size of all bolts, screws, aqnd nuts for the car and where they go? I found hondapartsnow.com but their pictures are sometimes hard to distiguish and some parts not listed

I like hondaautomotiveparts.com, not sure if the pictures are all the same...

Also, be glad you don't have the hx motor...it's vtec-e aka slow slow slow! Sounds like you're going in the right direction. Not sure about the o2 wiring you mentioned..

Well I was actually after the MPG of the HX. Of course I like performance but was going to use this as a 90 mile a day work car. But the more I learn the more I want speed. lol
