Default Having a hard time... need some help (b18c5)

As some of you guys know I have been restoring 01-980 for the past 3 months. The time has come for me to locate the heart of 01-980 and I'm having a very hard time locating one. I currently already have a itr tranny and jdm 96 spec head, but no luck finding a short block complete or bare. I'm looking for legit b18c5 block. I have contacted Dave B, 01-720 and local seller with no luck. I have thought about finding a legit gsr block, but ultimately the only motor I would want in this car would be a B18C5 or B18C.

I have also debated on purchasing a complete long block and then selling my 96 spec head after. The only reason why I havent picked up a comeplete swap is because I dont have the funds to do so.

I have tossed around the idea of purchasing a block from the dealership and I contacted Bobo racing today for a price. I have also seen alot of you guys with R dot blocks. I have no idea what R dot is lol.

the reason for this thread is that maybe you guys can give me some insight on anything else I can do to find a motor. I have already listed in the wtb/fs and on other website. I scower threads everyday hoping to get lucky with a block. Also has anyone purchased a block from the dealership or have an R dot block, can you tell me see more info on this.

I didnt think it would be this hard to find legit block but im finding that out now lol I'm hoping maybe someone sees this and has a legit itr block laying around either B18C5 or B18C.

thanks in advance for info and help you guys have.

r-dot block is a brand new block from acura/honda, or pretty much new oem replacement parts

The R Dot is the part you get from acura, it should have orange paint on the block stamp if new.

Its also like $2500. B18C5's are going to be hard to find as there are no reman ones besides dealership ones and that they are highly desirable. I've honestly given up on finding one outside of Honda. Ill probably be placing my order for an R-DOT one soon from my local dealer, he said $2200...

arent street prices for non-R-DOT c5's like 4k? or is that for the full changeover (including tranny)?

Whats up n00b havent see you around here for a while. That sounds right as far other R swaps I seen. But I'm really just looking for the shortblock.

Its a complete, assembled short block, not including head. If you shop around some dealers have specials and can work something if you work at a shop, doesnt hurt to ask. Remember a b16 head is basicaly the same ( same casting) and those can be found pretty cheap used.

Ya but I get a discount through them and the SB comes out to $2200, IIRC the head would be ~$1100? Or something close, still expensive

i had the same problem, its hard to find a c5 bare block. it took me about a month of searching everyday and i finally found a b18c-r block or that's what i was told anyway. not sure there's really a difference in the b18c blocks anyway. i couldn't imagine spending 2200 on a bare block when you could score a used one for a 1/4 the price, over bore it, and spend the rest the money somewhere else. just my 02. good luck

Its fully assembled not bare. But you can find them every once in a while for cheaper.

I pmd you some info Dec. Hopefully it works out. Legit USDM B18c5 swaps with vin's are very hard to come by. Those that have them, don't want to sell them, and those that are selling, are asking a pretty penny.

the entire engine is $2500 shipped from jdm engines corp. if you're missing more pieces it could be the cheap way to go for a complete piece

I never heard of that website before. Have you purchased from them or know anyone who has?

JDM Engine Corp FTW! It's a legit site, highle recommended. It's like H-Motors, JHP, etc, but with cheaper prices, and free shipping. They sell all JDM motors for all makes. Anyways... I don't see why you don't just either get an entire swap for $3k, sell your head, and use that money, with a little bit more to do a rebuild. Basically, just new rings, gaskets, etc, and you're golden... You could get a complete '98 spec also. OR, get a B18C block (one for sale in the Northeast section 2 days ago, still up for grabs for a few hundred) put in whatever pistons you want, grab a B16 head, and throw in ITR or a supertech valvetrain, and finish it off with whatever cams you please... I have ITR cams for sale, in the northeast section there are brand new ITR cams for $350 shipped, or just dish out the $550 for some Skunk2 cams, and outperform that OEM ****!

Ive seen a Bare B18c5, with 1 lightly messed up sleeve. On eBay go for $100 plus $50 shipping, a few months back. Just look around every few days, you will find a good deal.
