so i went out today pressed my clutch and it felt like the gas pedal and didnt return from the floor with out helping it back up. checked my reservoir and it was empty, pressed the clutch again and heard it sucking air so im guessin i now have air in my system. i filled the reservoir back up and pumped the clutch and the pedal got most of the pressure back but stiill not the same as it was. car is drivable but still not normal. I had a pro install a clutch a few months back. its been perfect since but went out today and it was empty
Im hoping all i have to do is bleed it. please give me some insight and tips if there is something else i need to do.
Thanks btw 97 civic 4dr with b16 motor and trans, comp clutch stage 2. car drives, clutch pedal is just missing some pressure, please tell me bleeding it will solve the prob since i pumped clutch with no fluid unknowing it would be sucking air like an idiot.

 

Check if there's any leaking from behind the CMC (where pedal connects near firewall) or the slave. Replace either part that is leaking if there is.

If not, just bleed the line as you would with brakes.

 

follow the line all the way to tranny checking for leaks, while some one depresses the clutch pedal. If nothing just bleed it, and keep an eye on it it should be checked every 250 miles anyway according to honda.

 

heres a pic of inside the car of the clutch master cylinder. its not leaking but as you can see there is a lot of excess grease all over it. is this normal? like i said i refilled the reservoir and majority of the pressure has been restored, but not all. does it look like i need a new CMC or do i just need to bleed. if i do need to replace the CMC, how do i get the lines off from inside the firewall that are connected to the CMC,

 

If you are replacing the parts get the factory ones, as the ones from autozone or whatever are crap, seen them fail several times

 

well is that grease around the clutch master cylinder to excessive or does it look normal

 

I have never seen grease on a master cylinder like that. I would order both the master and slave cylinder and replace both at the same time. Bleed the system and problem should be fixed.

 

I think your clutch master is leaking bad. Have the same problem in my '96 CX. I only discovered it one I found it hard to put the car into gear when the car was running until it fully warmed up. Checked the fluid and it was empty so filled it up and found a small leak behind pedal. Must have been leaking for a long time for it to get that low. Just bought the car in January. Already ordered a new one but waiting for my swap to have it done all at once. Fluid seems to be staying at a constant level and don't have any problems getting into gear now so it is probably a really small leak.
