Default chipping an ecu .. parts i wanna get so far, what else am i missing here

so i have a stock virgin p28 that i want to chip to become a p30 or something atleast better to support a stock b16a. last time i had a p30 on my 4 door with a b16a2 and

it pulled much better than the p28.

i've read up on pgmfi.org about tuning and chipping ecus.

first time into chipping an ecu and i think i would need the following...

27_c256 EPROM Chip. i heard these are only one time programmable. after that the ROM stays permanent.

a rom burner, can i upload the P30 file from my pc with a rom burner to the eprom chip and then once its uploaded take it out and chip the p28 ?

what else am i missing besides the two ?

http://qcwo.com/technicaldomain/inst...a-p28-ecu-chip

SST chips from xenocron are re-writeable.

Visit xenocron.com

I usually get most of my resistors, transistors, and SST chips from Chris.

Another thing you will need to chip the p28 first if it has not been chipped yet. Depending on which board you have check this out as well.

http://xenocron.com/install/1720.htm
http://xenocron.com/install/11f0.htm

And you need soldering skills. These boards are fragile.

Since you're a NOOB at this I would read up on CROME first. It's a good starting source.

Moates.net is another great resource for ECU chipping. Other than reading a few archive pages from PGMFI.org, Moates.net is where I leaned how to chip an ECU. Going to the source is a good place for tech information when it comes to burners and real time programing hardware. The burn2, ostrich & demon are all Moates products.

Here is a good beginners guide to chipping a Honda OBD1 ECU...Honda Tuning with Crome Tutorial The ECU chipping tutorial starts on page 17 of this PDF.

okay will check out all websites.

so a blank virgin chip needs to be chipped first to the p28 before i can start burning a ROM to that chip ?

Also, you mentioned something about transistors, resistors .. do I have to replace these in the ECU as well with different ones when I am only doing the p30 reprogram or are these resistors and transistors replaced

all the time when you rechip the ECU ?

Dude thank you so much. I did a lot of googling around, but couldn't exactly find like the true origin of ECU chipping now that I came here, you guys are life savers.

Yeah, she's a few years old!

The ECU chipping is still the same, most of the tuning hardware has been upgraded a few times since then.

Yes the p28 needs to be chipped first to run any other program.

Read the link I posted.

You do not need to re chip anything once it has already been done. The only thing you would need to do is replace anything that takes a ****.

I like digikey but I don't like how you have to call for some parts. It gets annoying. Also the c51 and c52 are only sold in packages of 500 or something.

its just a capacitor...you can use damn near anything as long as its a 15volt or higher.
you can even pickup the parts you need from a local radio shack.

As stated above, read the crome pdf . Download crome 1.5 and start playing with it.

Then load up the map you need.

If you really just wanted a stock p30 map. Might as well try finding a stock ecu ? might be cheaper.

( after you buy the rom burner, the parts to chip your ecu, the time it takes , plus then you will probably want to get a nicer option for tuning like the rtp and neptune. to real tune and maximize everything )

I know that, I have gone on different routes about those capacitors.
