Default 95 Gsr starting issue

I have a 95 Gsr with a stroked b20/Vtec at 11.5:1 compression. I just put a new battery in it and when I turn the key the fuel pump will turn but the engine will not turn over. If I put a battery charger on it I can get it to fire sometimes. Do I need to buy a special battery or could it be a starter issue? Any input is much appreciated.

Timing should be good and it is definitely getting fuel. When i turn the key it is hit or miss on whether the starter will engage and turn the crank. If I park it on hills I can bump start it. The engine was just recently built and ran for about 3000 miles with no issues. It is not tuned, however I am unsure of how this would cause the starter to not turn. The starter will work after a few hours of the battery being charged, but I just installed a brand new battery and the same symptoms are present.

I am pretty confident that it is your terminals, disconnect them, clean them up, and put them back on. make sure all connections are good and tight

this has happened to me before, I just went out and bought new terminals and it went away.

First ting to try is a bypass jump, [screwdriver trick] unplug the smaller of the two leads at the starter motor, [starter motor solenoid control lead] use a jumper lead to supply power directly to the solenoid control terminal, you can jump from the batt. poss. (+) terminal or the batt. cable terminal on starter motor, [screwdriver trick].

WARNING, it's called a bypass because for a reason, make sure the car is not in gear and set the hand brake, engine will crank even if ign. is not on.

If engine always cranks with a bypass jump, the starter and solenoid are not the problem.

I would look at ign. switch, CIS, [A/T Gear Position Switch, automatic] the starter relay and wiring between the above. 94
