what is the 95 civic like to drive?
im going to get a 95 civic dx in a few days and i was wondering what it is like to drive, is it very peppy and responsive or will it be a slow turd like my dads old 93 saturn? Now im used to driving a 96 toyota camry with the 2.2 so how will this car be compared to that? The camry is nice to drive and has decent power but by no means is a powerhouse. the car needs a head gasket and my dads an auto mechanic so it shouldnt be a problem to do. I love hondas and have been riding their dirt bikes ever since i was 5 so i hope their cars are just as good.
older hondas are great cars i loved my first 92 dx very light, nimble and fun to drive not fast by any means but they are one of the simplest and easiest cars to work on.

As far as driving a stock civic they feel like a normal car and it should be more responsive than a camry
The cornering will show body roll on a stock civic but tasteful mods can make it very fun and great to drive. And if you ever want more power....B18B1 or A1. Cheap great power for a first time owner.
im 15 and its going to be my first car, and i live in the country in iowa so it getting stolen shouldnt be a problem. Im going to just be using this car as a commuter but i would like it to look good, mostly just by keeping it really clean though. If i wanted a fast car i would like to start off with a bigger engine, this engine seems like it would cost alot to get to make good power, and with 195,000 miles im not sure i would want to put that much stress on the motor. I would like to get a truck after this car because i haul my dirt bike around a lot. Is there anything i should know about the car? and with the theft thing, why are these cars so easy to break into?
If you want to know about all the little problems you may have with your civic I suggest you find the "you know you own a EG/EK when.." thread.

They are pretty good cars, but they are aging keep that in mind. The mechanical
condition of the car weighs heavily on how well they drive and feel behind the wheel
just like any other old car.
I think anyone who has owned them for a few years will agree that they are relatively
cheap and easy to fix for the most part.
Also IMO D series engines are engineering marvels.
Some people talk about '92-'95 Civics as if they were the second coming of Christ,
I can't say I feel that way, but they have proven to be good cars.

with 195,000 miles we would normally be hesitant on buying it but our 96 camry has 185,000 and it runs and drives great, leaks no oil and has no problems at all, and im sure the honda is just as good of a car and will last just as long, i dont want to turn it into a fart can piece of junk but i wouldnt mind getting some extra hp out of it, but i dont want a forced induction system because they cost to much and the car has lots of miles
Yes the honda will last very long and easy to work on. You could prolly find the civic that you want that runs decent for a little more money so I would save my money if it were me. If the single cam has not been ran for long with the bad headgasket then I would get it. Really if you are mechanicallly skilled at all ( you are 15 have lots of time to learn) then you could swap the motor our with a 200 block if the motor is bad. Cheap is the name of the game.
As far as the eg and breaking into them. Take a look at the window glass and the rubber trim, easy to stick a screw driver there. Shaved keys can open a Honda door in about 2 seconds...I did not believe until I saw with my car.
Really a whole bunch of precautions to driving. I take my steering wheel off at college, and if Im parker far out I take my Hondata out as well. No steering wheel, no ecu...theifs could still get it but it makes it a hassle.
2-way pager alarms are the ****! I got one with long distance...only problem is at school the buildings and walls interfere with the signal; thus, not transmitted very far to the remote when in class....
Only thing you can do is make it hard for a criminal......

I have never had a problem...but Im safer than a lot of ppl. Dont normally see other people walking around places with a momo steering wheel and an ecu LMAO

i have some knowledge in cars but most of my knowledge is with dirt bikes, i have rebuild many many engines and have spent countless hours working on them, so i think this car could be a good opportunity to learn more about cars
also a noob** ... but ive owned my 92 DX for 6 yrs now and loved it i bought another one last yr...tho its time to get rid of both of them, i still love these cars and planning on buy another one in better condition than these. unfortunately i am not knowledged in the engine area but and handle of these cars, you will love.
all i do have to say, is with replacing the head gasket, replace the piston rings.i learned the hard way.
great cars, youll enjoy

i would be hesitant to put a turbo on a motor with that many miles...but i did have an 89 civic my first ever honda i pulled the motor to replace it with an integra ls motor and my orginal motor had over 350k on it and it still ran very strong...keeping up with maintanence is key! I had a 94 civic and i loved it im sure you will too!
really putting a turbo isnt wise on a stock engine, you would swap out some internals. Maybe a tiny turbo. However, I still have my 95 ex. It was my first car that I bought in 98. I currently have an integra engine in it too. Very depandable car. Up until the swap, its only gave me a couple problems. I had a battery crap out, and the distributor went out. Also one time when it got broke into, in which they cleared out my stereo, I had electrical problems which my main fuse kept blowing out. SOmehow fried my fuel pump too. I think you would be happy with it.
