Default best motor/tranny combo in 99-00 si..

ok.. fairly new to hondas. looking to buy a civic.. most likely a 99-00 si , but im kinda open to other then a si.. most likely a HB if i dont get a si.. so heres the thing.. see alot of these cars with gsr swaps.. modded out stock motors.. all kinds of things and im still trying to learn with hondas never ending engine codes..lol! it needs to be a DD but i also want it to be somewhat fast as im use to driving 12-14sec cars.. so im not looking for stock. i feel pretty confident that i can determine a clean swap to a hacked up swap.. i think anyway .. without some type of forced induction how fast can the GSR be in the si body? how fast with the stock b16a2 modded out? or is there a better motor combo i should be looking at? would a 96-97 coupe with a turbo d series be better? any insight would be great!

If you want a 12-14 second car then don't buy a Civic. I mean you could get a built/boosted Civic but I would not recommend it since you won't have a baseline comparison of what is normal and what is not. Not to mention you don't want to pick up someone's mess. Without forced induction? Forget it.

Get one as close to stock as you can find and then build/boost it.

I understand were your coming from with buying a stock one but stock isn't for me.. rather buy one already modded. I understand what you mean someone else's hack job but I'm definitely looking for a clean civic done right.. no rush in getting one. And I don't expect the car to run 12s.. just saying I don't want a 18sec civic that can't get out of its own way lol .. what woukd be the better setup.. a gsr with full exhaust and cams .. b16a2 same setup .. or a boosted d series ? And boosted d series I mean if I lean towards a 92-95 hb .. what would be a faster setup?

What kind of horsepower are you looking at? I'm not trying to get into the "which is faster" game.

Look for a K swapped civic. You will be happy. Good luck finding one done right though. How much are you willing to spend?

get a civic si with a gsr motor with basic bolt ons definately wont be 200whp but its a starting point and mated to the short geared b16 transmission it will definately be a fun starting point. if you find your self wanting more u can always go boost then really have some fun

I used to have 99 Si with the stock b16a2 and it wasn't fast necessarily but it was a blast to drive. The way it handled through corners and how high it could rev made it a ton of fun to drive.

careful buying a swapped civic. the market is 90% hacked up **** built with mostly stolen or ebay parts, the other 10% are expensive (for a reason)

Get a Mustang or pick up something boosted. Or boost it yourself.

Just get a b-series and a 4.785 final drive with an LSD. I haven't touched the motor and the car is a BLAST to drive.

Did everybody forget about the H22? If a JDM H22 can get a Prelude into the high 14's (with I/H/E), it'll be plenty enough to launch a Civic into the 14's. H22 swaps are getting cheaper too since everybody wants a K anymore.

so finding a gsr/h22 motor in a 92+ hb would probably be faster then a 99-00 si with same motor?

GSR and an H22 are two different things. Either has more horsepower, H more than B. JDM H more than USDM H. Do a search for H2B.

if i wanted something like that i would get it.. i want a HONDA CIVIC.. just want the best motor possible , especially since 50% or more of the civics out there are not stock anymore i pretty much have my pick of what motor/body combo i want. just trying to under stand what is the fastest/best out of them all.. price range... id go as high as $7k for a real nice one.. rather be at like $4500-5500 honestly and have a little money to play with afterwards but.. and were talking no newer then a 00 body as i dont really like the newer bodies.

I'm not here to help you shop for a car. I meant good luck with your purchase. You're obviously here to try and find a Civic to play Fast and Furious with but don't want to do any research on your own. That's not what this forum is about.
