Im goin to look at a 98 hatch with a b18c type R swap this weekend. I have never had anything with a swapped motor. What are some things I need to look for before i buy the car. The guy claims the motor only has 40-60k miles on it. Appearance wise it looks to be a very clean and solid car in the pictures. Any pointers would help. thanks.

 

NEVER fall for that 40-60k thing. I would recommend doing a compression test before buying it. Thats what I'm doing next time I buy a honda/acura. Does the car have and upgrades...like intake...exhaust? Those things could indicate that the car was abused some. Though it could still be abused without the upgrades. Is it original ecu the car supposed to come with? Post some pictures

 

drive it obviously, it should feel strong.. make sure the engine sounds healthy, no excessive noise.

also make sure the block says B18C5 obviously.

you could take the oil cap off and try and look inside a little and see if its somewhat clean looking, an engine with that many miles should be pretty clean.
