97 DX coupe. bone stock. once the car gets to operating temp the idle bounces from 750 to 1500 back and forth. doesn't do it when cold. smoked the car no vacuum leaks. im pretty sure its the iacv.

That's like askin' about a CEL before you pull the codes.

I'm guess iacv as well. Clean off the TB while you're at it.

What work have you recently done on the engine?

If you place your hand over the top of the throttle body (TB) with the engine warm and idling, can you kill the engine?

If you use your finger to cover the port inside the TB leading to the IACV when the idle is fluctuating, does this prevent the idle fluctuation?

 

No codes, recently just did plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. I cleaned the TB, at the same time. I will pull the iac, and cleaning it.
Also kudos on putting your hand over the TB, never even thought of doing that.
