idling issue thats bugging me
hey I got a 95si/95gsr. It runs good with no CEL or anything. Just when you stop and it idles, the rpm's go from 800-1200rpm. Now when I put the car in first and slowly let the cluch go with brakes applied, I bring the rpms down and it will stay like that. Without doing that, the rpm's jump up and down. it seams like sometimes it want to stop, but then it starts doing it again. I have cleaned out my idle controll valve like a year ago. Should I do it again? Or.......?
Thanks
Thanks
So people...chime in cuz looks like there might be more people with this problem. Its not a super huge idling problem but its one that buggs the crap out of you.
Mine does this as well. I set the iacv compensation a bit higher during the winter. Allows the car to warm up a bit quicker. Idles between 900 and 1300 in my driveway. I think around 15% IACV compensation will give idle surge. Usually back it off to 5% during the warmer months. After the car warms up it idles like a champion at 900 Lol.
I intentionally do this through crome though so it probably wont help you. Have you checked out the FITV? Theres a thread on how to clean it somewhere on this forum.

multiple things can cause this. i'll tell you one strange fix i've seen work in some cases. once you eliminate the obvious like cam timing, valve adjustment and ignition timing.....check this out. i cured a car of this a month or so back by.......switching the fuel pump
no kidding. the car run but was a 96gsr was a jdm itr swap, had that same issue. oem gsr pump, still fired the car but had over 200k on it. switched it to a new walbro 255 and the problem vanished....
what i still just don't get is why this had an effect at idle...my only wild *** guess is mid throttle or WOT pressure dropped and the ecu increased the short fuel trim to comp for it, then at idle it was rich and stumbling

so you controll the iacv through crome? (sorry i'm noob when it comes to electronic control devices) Cuz that things is pain in butt to take off every time. I think I over-unscrewed mine. It idles at startup @ around 1900rpm. And the fitv(which I think is only on obd1 motors) I have wd40'd it like a year ago also. You think it'd get clogged/dirty that fast?
I will gaurantee that most people dont do this. Its just cold up here in maryland and I like to let the teg get warm before heading to school in the morning. I dont have much time in the morning and doing what I did has proven to be a very effective method.
Racebum might be on to something with the fuel pump theory. It seems to make sense. I would check it out.

there is another thread on this.
i had the same issue on a 95 teg after i replaced the IAC.
its another valve under the throttle body that became unscrewed. i screwd it back in and the issue went away.
wish my 98 had the same valve. them i would know what my issue is.
i have been wondering bout the fuel pump.
my car just idles crappy. gone through it all. found no issues. I have lost a timing belt on the 405 in L.A. but its been running for long enough for another timing belt.

Yes I control my iacv through crome. I have it disabled, but I set the compensation high. The car idles at 900 through crome, but by letting the iacv compensate a bit it will get the idle to surge when the motor is cold. Usually between 1000rpm and 1300 rpm. The higher you set the iacv compansation, the more the motors idle will surge. When summer rolls around, I set the iacv compensation to like 2% or so and no surging what so ever.
