BAR'D 97 EX W/B16 WON'T PASS SMOG
Hey guys I need to get rid of this car soon and I have struck out twice getting it to pass. This was my buddies dad's car since new and he ran the single cam out of oil and blew the single cam in 02 had the swap done by an Acura dealership and paid a rediculous amount of cash to have a B16 swapped in. Well basically I bought it from my buddy recently after it was just sitting on the side of his house for 2 years. The car is completely stock except for an intake and its running a p30 ecu. So I replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and brand new intake and went in for smog. It failed almost everything. So I put a new CA legal cat, fuel pressure was low at idle (30psi) so I put an adjustable regulator and set it to 37psi. Adjusted valves and put a new v/c gasket, tube seals, cam plug, and spool valve filter and timing is right on. 2nd test it passed everything except hydrocarbons (HC) at 15mph, it barely passed HC at 25mph. Only thing I could think of is retard timing 3 degrees, maybe change O2 sensors, new plug wires. Max HC allowed at 15mph is 66 and I measured 78. Any input would be appreciated guys thanks.
Thanks I couldn't remember if it was 2 or 3 degrees. Maybe I could bump fuel pressure another psi or two. Or I guess I could order both O2 sensors and new wires just don't wanna dump any more cash into it if I don't have to.
