Default difference between civic ex/si motor d16z6

Hey guys. i know what a d16z6 is. came in si and ex models of the civic 92-95 but i called japanese motors store and asked for a z6 and they said si or ex and i told them it doesn't matter because it's the same. yet they said it's different. sure the parts are interchangeable, but i wanna know what exactly is the difference between the si z6 and the ex z6? cause to me, i say they're the same.

Very same engine, some of the EXs were automatics and have a different throttlebody (pulley is different, automatic versions have a second outside pulley for the kickdown cable) that's the only difference.

yea that's what i said too.. i kept saying it's the same yet he says its different so i didn't want to get into an argument with him over the phone about lol.. yea i know that it can either be auto or manual but that makes no difference for the engine. and i already know that everything bout it is the same like pistons valves cams etc. don't know how he got the job at the motor store if he kept saying it's the same.. i think he only meant it's the same because it was si and mine is ex..

besides the obvious serial numbers and the motors not being identical.. the only difference could possibly that the SI has a slightly slightly slightly more aggersive cam (maybe 1 hp difference) and trans is different 5th gear shorter than ex but thats trans not motor.

I know this is old, but just wanted to add, there is a difference. Si engine comes with P08-1 jdm vti head, much more aggressive cam, it actually adds 5 hp and 5ftps. EX uses an P08-4 thru 9 head, which is just an average head.

This is one of those super rare occasions that the added info outweighs dragging up an old thread in my opinion.

I suspect this is probably accurate information as such I am going to close the thread as it is the normal process around here. I believe the thread is now complete.

If there is anyone that wishes to add or debate this civilly, please message me with the reply you wish to add and I will consider reopening to allow current public conversation on the topic.
