Default D16y7 misfire

My ek misfires now when it starts up cold but goes away when it warms up alittle. I don't notice any miss's when it's warm what could cause this? Only new things are K&N filter and new pugs.

Definitely start with the plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Any CEL codes?

Ok I'll do wires first my bolts on my cap are oem and never been removed to when I went to take one off it broke right off and the rest seem to be doing the same thing. Do y7's hold up ok as long as I don't beat it and do oil changes and regular maitance?

Are you asking this question because you're not sure if you should pour money into this car?

I am asking because I have always owned b series swapped cars. And never had a factory sohc. Plus this is a y7 not the best engine Honda made compared to the z6 and y8. So I was wonder if the hold up as long as I know this is a DD and mot a race car. And don't rec the pi** out it will it last me. It currently has 104k

lol the Y7 is basically a Y8 with different pistons and no vtec but otherwise build quality should be the same and if anything last longer unlike the Y8s with their spun main bearings. Y7 should be very solid so long as you maintain it like you should.

Update I haven't replaced anything yet. But now when my car is warm it idles low when I push the clutch in. And it even shuts off at times.

Also when I come to a total stop and sit still for a minute. It spurters then the idle goes up. No check engine light either.

check the spark plugs, take pics if you don't know what they mean and then replace the spark plug wires if you haven't done so since owning the car since they should be replaced about every 30K miles.

Check to see if the timing is a few degrees retarded or advanced, perhaps?

Ok so I advanced my timing the whole way out on my distributer. And it idles perfect now. I do still have a misfire when cold thou. Is there anything bad about advancing my ignition timing? It runs fine and idles fine...

Interesting, hmm maybe you've got a weak or bad coil/ignition system? I mean think about it, if you have to advance the ignition timing all the way, then it's possible that before the coil wasn't firing by the time it was needed. I would replaced the bad ignition components because a weak spark that doesn't ignite the fuel mixture will mean unburnt fuel will leave, wasting fuel and will pollute the o2 sensor and catalytic converter. Just a bad idea to run the car like this.

Has your check engine like came on with a missfire DTC?? cuz it sounds like u got a problem wth your IAC valve... (Intake air control valve) They will feel just like a mis until the car is warmed up. Check the coolant in the car too... the iac is ran off of engine coolant.

I don't know, when I had a stuck IAC valve it idled fine when it was warming up but then bounced badly once it was warmed up and I have a D16Y7 engine too. Cleaned that valve and it not only fixed the bouncing idle but made the car shake like 80% less when letting off on the throttle.
