My '98 Accord LX has had it's check engine light on for 5+ years now. The code always reads p0401 - insufficient EGR flow. In the past two years, I've replaced the valve three times and twice I've cleaned out the EGR ports. Replacing the valve didn't even give me a full day without the light on. The last time we did the EGR ports the light stayed off for about a week but sure enough came back on for the same code.
My boyfriend is a mechanic, but he and all the guys at the shop can not think of any other possible reasons for it. I'm not having any trouble with the car besides that I'd like to have that light turned off. Any ideas?

 

How did you clean out the ports?

 

CODE P0401 on honda accord 98-01

blocked egr ports in intake manifold....

there will be a plug of carbon build up...

clean out with flat head screwdriver and throttle body cleaner..
