Fly and drive - Who's done it ?
Hey guys,
Aside from the vacations with the wife, and any other banana smuggling activities planned for the year. One of the events I'm looking towards to this year is when I finally get around to do the fly and drive, which is pick up the perfect ITR, and just drive it back home to Texas. I'm planning to bring the wife along and drive back and stopping on some areas of interest along the way and make it a mini vacay per'se'
Have any of you guys done anything like that before ? Most of the cars I bought out of state, I've had them shipped but is nothing but sit home, rub my sack and wait. I figured it would be fun providing that the ITR I buy is not on the same state we're in otherwise it will be boring. Any of you guys recommend doing this ? Or is it plainly just gay to do it that way ?

Yeah, I agree with you. This still a process, I'm trying to be really meticulous on what I think would be perfect for me and plan to spend good coin when when we're ready for it. Just one of those where if I should take the ball and chain with me, or just huff it out on my own. Again it all depends how far as well will the car be and of course how good the weather is which is why Im waiting until at least spring so this caca weather becomes more stable.
Flew out of state for my itr. Did some good site seeing on the way back home. It was fun. Make sure you do your homework buying a itr out of the state that you never seen or drove. GL
just my two cents make sure you request that you get brand new lube, ya know fresh oil change and transmission fluid before you drive it off the lot. I flew outta of SC to Chicago, then drive all the way back to SC. THE BEST DRIVE OF MY LIFE! Loved the scenery of the mountains and the down hill slope of the Appalachian mountains driving 75mph bobbing and weaving through the lines

OP the itr is a great community. Im sure where ever you find an ITR(depending on location) im sure one of us would gladly check it out in person and report back to you. This has happened numerous occasions.
Deffinately. There are enough members of this community that would help you out. This is also deffinately something you should absolutely do.
I flew from Orlando to NYC. Met up with Bbasso for 24-28 hours. Saw several sites up there, ground zero, statue, all 5 burrows, Verizona (sp) bridge, brooklyn bridge, had real NY pizza. Next day got up and picked up my car in CT and drove down to DC and met up with Zygspeed, saw some memorials and drove past some of the museums. Saw a few other buildings while there as well, then had dinner. From there drove down to Fredricksburg and met up with Walker111, crashed for the night with him. Next day got up and drive to NC where
I meet up with Steezy and BS'd for an hour or so with him. From there I drove the rest of the way back to Orlando.
Find out if the car burns oil. My trip back consumed around 11 qts of oil and the first thing I did was a rebuild. Check it each stop on the way back, or just a random pull over to see where your at. I'm sure glad I did.
Other than that, enjoy the trip and the sites on the way back.

When my dad and I went to go check out our current R in IL, we initially had the intention of driving it home. Trouble was, it was too nice to risk getting caught in:
1. Crappy weather
2. Stuck behind a gravel truck
3. Risk getting in an accident
Plus, we could not secure travel insurance in time, so we decided to have it shipped.
I'd suggest seeing if the car is "too nice to drive". If it is, then you should probably ship.

Flew from Charleston to Columbus, OH to pick up my car. Maybe I was lucky that the seller was a great person, deposited the check into his bank, got the keys and the title and drive nine hours home. Unfortunately I'm old enough to remember paper maps. GPS and some knowledge of the geography is confidence inspiring!
I flew out to cali to pick up my own ITR. Since i left there until i had a garage for it in Texas. It was a pretty cool drive, not sure if i'd like to drive 1400 miles by myself again though.
Best wow cheats for official servers it have free trial safe to use http://www.mmohelping.com | wow hack
OH yeah BAN! ^
I remember back in 2002-2003 I went to take detailed pics of a Japanese ITR in Chicago. It was under 20 degrees and the car was painted EBP
For myself, I've travelled quite a distance for the right car...
Fly/drive Charlotte -> Chicago 12hrs in what I'm sure was a rain storm with a GPS-assisted radar lock on my new car
Drive/drive Detroit <-> Chicago
Drive/drive Detroit <-> Chicago x2
Drive/drive Podunk Georgia <-> Chicago (I had never see such a ridiculous truck per capita rate)
Drive/fly Chicago -> Los Angeles
I never understood why people would say "omg I would totally buy this car if it was closer." If it's the right car, it's worth driving or flying to it TONIGHT... unless it or you are in Hawaii that is.

I picked up my '97 in Memphis, TN and drove it home with my dad to Ohio. That seemed to be an uncomfortable trip. I got my '98 local, but ended up driving from Ohio to Jackson Hole, WY and back with my dad. That was a fantastic trip. Stopped at the Badlands, Black Hills, and Mt. Rushmore. I'd suggest figuring out what you want to see and then deciding to take the wife. I'd do those drives again with my dad but not the wife.
Keep in mind Im based in NC
1st ITR - rode 12 hours to Miami, drove home
2nd ITR - rode 4 hours to Richmond, drove home (not really notable)
3nd ITR - flew to Milwaukee, drove 20 hours home.

Drove from ri to florida and back to pick up an accord.
420'd at 4:20am behind the white house as they setup up for obamas inaugaration.
No bullshit
To sit there with the streets dead except for police is an experience, also hit the washington monument

I drove 5 hrs to pick up my itr shell stayed there for 1 hr filled out all the paper work and put the car on the trailer then another 5 hrs back to parents to store the car because I don't have a garage where I live and then 1 hr back home for a total of a 12 hr trip. Not along as rest of these guys, but as stated above worth it for the right car. All the sight seeing I did was looking back to make sure it was still on the trailer lol
It also seems like R owners are more responsible and appreciate their cars rather than having to "tune it" to make it better. Clean Hondas that are ten years old are getting harder to find.
Flew from Tampa, FL to Omaha, NE and drove my 97 back straight through.
If I had more time I would have made it more of a road trip instead, but..
I've flown in and then drove a rented pos to a track to race before too, back in the LeMons days
