ex tranny has shorter gears, either a y8 or a aftermarket one. aftermarket will just be bigger if you plan on upgrading that motor later on.

You could swap out the head and intake from a Y8, but it wil still be a slowass pig. The VX has stupid long gears! I swapped out a trans from a DX coupe into a VX. HUGE improvement in acceleration! Even with the peashooter stock VX intake! Try to find a coupe, 4 dr or EX transmission. They have a shorter FD ratio than the hatchback transmissions. Do the trans swap first. You wont regret it.

I wouldn't bother with swapping intake manifold, transmission, etc. You're better off replacing the complete engine/transmission to D16Z6 or D16Y8, if you want any performance.

You should keep it the way it is. You can easily got 45-50 MPG in the city and 52-58 in Highway.

Save gas = save money.
Save money = more money for a better swap.

Good move. I did it because the the VX trans lost 3rd gear and it was cheaper swap out instead of overhaul.

Completely understandable. I probably would have done the same.

I don't see any good coming of any mods to a vtec-e. Horrible platform to start with.

Local pickup on a y8 or z6...or swap B. Depends on the practicality of it for your particular budget and goal situation.

After swapping a y8 head, intake, tb, new ecu, trans, and all that mess you could've bought a completely different, and better platform.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. D16Z6 is way better platform right out of the box, and can be built for boost pretty cheap. The only thing you might want to save from a VX is 3rd gear which can be flipped over and used for a very short 4th in an Si tranny.
