performance muffler that doesn't sound like a fart can?
This may be a stupid question, but is there a performance muffler that actually sounds decent? I don't necessarily want to draw attention to my car, but I wouldn't mind a little better exhaust flow. I'm looking at a 2 1/4" cat back, but I don't llike any of the mufflers I've seen out there.

All those aftermarket mufflers are going to have a certain tone to them thats going to draw attention to you. Ive got an 08 SI muffler on my car and its super quiet but has some spunk to it when youre up in the RRRRR's
True...all about availability at the time and your patience I suppose. New SI mufflers are nice...sometimes hard to come by. If you're impatient I'm a big fan of the yonaka ws2 clone mentioned above. It will be replacing my current exhaust as soon as I'm done with paint.
I picked up an EG6 SiR oem muffler last year, and love it! I was also looking to avoid the farting-coffee-can exhaust syndrome. Others I looked at include Spoon Sports street muffler (not the N1), Apexi Ws2, Greddy Sp2, Mugen twin loop. Spoon was my choice not because it's spoon, or having some delusion it would add 40hp. Rather it has the smallest tip diameter of the lot for an understated look, and the sound was muted as well for city driving. For me nothing beats an oem look and a nice mature, throaty sound.
Apex'i WS2 for a nice quiet exhaust that screams in VTEC or a Vibrant performance muffler that has a nice deep tone that wont get buzzy and sound like a fart can.
i have a magnaflow oval muffler and i love it. it only cost me $105 and the quality and sound are great. the product number for the one i got is 14832, and thats a 2.25.
Yup, I had a 06 SI muffler on my 98 civic with a jdm gsr. And I lost alittle top end pull compared to the straight through muffler. But It was sooo much better driving around town without the loud annoying fart can.
not necesarily, all the ricers around here get busted for aftermarket exhaust (any modification is illegal) and i havn't been busted on yet and i live right down the street form the police department.
I just picked up a Vibrant twin tip (just looked it up it's called the Vibrant StreetPower) I believe from a friend of mine who had it on his 2005 WRX. It looks more stock than the no name fart can I used to have. I like the deeper tone and it doesn't have the cracking sound when I accelerate. I have also heard the Tanabe Medallion Touring sound decent if you are looking for a quieter exhaust, the other mentions about Apexi Noir&WS2's I would agree with too. It depends on what you are looking for.

I too was crazy about a loud exhaust. Then the pipe leading to the muffler cracked. If you, ever imagine getting straight pipes installed, just sell your stereo. You wont need it.
The best mufflers I have heard are apexi ws2, RS*R exmag, mugen twin-loop, and greddy sp2. They all have a nice tone, very quiet and looks more stock then most aftermarket exhaust on the market. I prefer the RS*R exmag personally but I currently have the apexi ws2 which I personally think is the next best thing.
