i hope we do get a diy here, I got the S&S headers for the A20, and they are pretty low to the ground. even on the factory setup, every car i see has a smashed downpipe

Nice I'm looking to make one like that that covers the pan header and tranny any details on how he mounted it and does he have to take the whole thing off to change the oil

The other issue I see is keeping heat around the transmission and oil pan. However that all depends on the climate you live in and what you do with your car.

I really think it needs to attach to the cross members, the transmission is a bad idea, as far as heat, it would need to have lightning holes or heavy steel mesh in the design to allow heat to escape.
Just to give some ideas for mounting.

great plates in this thread, i have this massive heavy louvered plate from a 60's welder, I think it could become the section over my headers
I don't have the means or skill to make one myself. Purchasing a pre-made one made sense. I've inquired locally about getting parts like this made and it's always been extremely pricey.
If you can make one yourself though, more power to you.

I just can't afford their prices, and they don't make one to fit my car anyway. I have the sheet aluminum, the bending machines available, etc.
A few years back I tried to get six small brackets made to mount a lip (2 bends each, 2 holes each) and I was quoted over $200 for those alone. Just bent metal with holes in them.
There's this too. FLP JDM ITR 4-1 header skidplate. $59

I ended up getting a BNIB rear lip (they're discontinued so I got lucky), but there's still other people out there who probably just had to figure out how to mount the lip approximately correctly.

I can't believe I never thought of using a street sign I helped a buddy out a while ago making a plate for a 4-wheeler and that's what we used lol but thanks for the ideas guys definitely gave me a jumpoff point I'm really suprised this thread actually helped rather then just a couple guys saying "why do you wannna make a skid plate just raise your car up blah blah blah"

my car is at stock height still and I still need one, the center beam and the factory down tube take a beating, with the S&S headers as low as they are, it's now a necessity, we also have really bad roads here, this is also the reason I designed the side outlet for the exhaust, no matter how slowly you went over a sharp driveway, the factory exhaust always scraped the ground at a steep angle, i tore up a bunch of tips that way

another idea is to adapt a plate from something else, i just ebayed skid plate and got all kinds of interesting results, there are a lot of them for 4 wheelers and things like that, which could be adapted to cover the headers and oil pan on a Honda, if you get lucky you might find a used one, it's not going to hurt to have some scrapes and so on, just rattle can it, it's going to get scraped up and banged up anyway, that means it's working
